Never bought an Ikon, and after reading this thread, I probably never will.

I love my ikon 102 slant, the X3 is decent. I agree there are mixed reviews but I really like ikon.

I have enjoyed some razors more than others for sure. However, the one razor I despise is the Gillette Slim. I have a very nice example that I purchased since it is my birth year and quarter. No matter the setting or the blade, I just find it a very inefficient and rough shaver. I much prefer the Gillette New LC or my birth year Super Speed.

Mergress with long handle.
Newer DE shaver and coming from cartridge shaving. I read somewhere long handle/heavy razor would help transition. Wrong - sold after approx 4 shaves

I would say the exact opposite. For me anyway, I think a lighter razor would have helped me more with the transition. I started with a Parker 22r which is on the heavy side. After using injector razors, I believe those would be the perfect segue from cartridges. You could then work your way up to heavier razors from there until you find what your ultimate preference is.

I would agree - light and maneuverable for new shaver. I read the wrong forums and went heavy and long (Meregress XL). I kept as my only razor for a year a Goodfella OC - light, medium length and somewhat maneuverable.

My Gillette Fat Boy just isn't a satisfactory shaver. I keep this for my collection now and not much more. About once a year I give it a go but I am always disappointed. Both my Slim and Super Adjustable give far superior shaves and I suspect that is because they have flatter heads than the Fat Boy.

I got rid of it altogether. Purchased one because of its popularity, figured that would have a reason, but failed to find that reason. No good shaves were possible so I sold it. Had a slim and a super adjustable as well, and although, like you, I had better results with those it still wasn't satisfactory. Gillette adjustables are not for me, and quite possibly no adjustables are for me.
Have a nice day!
