Yates Precision Manufacturing Razor

I am expecting my Yates 921 to be delivered today.

What blades have you found that pair well with the Yates 921 (and for which plate, since I have the M, H and EH coming today)?

I have read that the blades that work well with the Blackbird work well with the Yates 921 but I have not tried the Blackbird either.
I wonder if the 921 works better with sharper blades or works well with any blade.
My go to blade is the Astra SP but I have other blades as well.

Gillette 7 o'clock yellow work with the 921-M very well.
Astra SP far too dull for me and cause irritation.

I agree with Jeff wyze0ne in that I don't find the Yates picky at all! Had a wonderful shave this morning with my preferred blade (Israeli Red) on its fifth use.

My Yates 921-M arrived today along with the H and EH plates! I apologize in advance since these are the first pictures I am posting on this site and I am playing around with resizing the original images so not to bombard you with large pictures that could be slow to load on some devices.



I also picked up the Spaceman Leather travel case. I bought it used but in mint condition.


I decided to buy it after I read that you can store extra plates in the blade section (which I found to be true).





In the picture above, I put a wrapped blade between the plates to keep them from rubbing each other.

I like the feel of the original 4" handle and look forward to shaving with it tomorrow for the maiden shave with the razor.
I hope to find the 3.25" stubby handle in bead blast finish as well but the Yates site sells out of them so fast!
Once my 14 day new member period expires I hope to hit the BST forum and look for it. (Right now I cannot get PMs).

I read a post saying you could use any handle you wanted with the Yates 921 if you use these nylon washers as spacers.

I found that if you stack three of the washers, you will fill up the channel in the base plate and then can use any handle (with the correct threads) with the 921 razor head.

I think my Rockwell 6S handle is a close match to the Yates bead blasted finish.

Now the fun begins with trying different blades with the different plates and trying different handles as well.
That will keep me busy for a while!

I have the 921 with H plate. The brass option is only brushed, not available in polished. I got the top cap and H plate in brass and the regular bead blasted stainless steel handle because that was the only handle in stock. It has become my favorite, above my Timeless bronze and Lupo 72 stainless steel.

Now with the BYOR (Build Your Own Razor) option, I’m going to order it with the M open comb option, 3.5” handle in “As Machined” finish.

The Spaceman Leather travel case and head cover appear to be discontinued; Spaceman Leather has stopped producing leather items since April 2022.

Ti22 The brilliance with the Yates 921 razor is that even my lousy blades are made more comfortable. It is my experience that the head geometry is very smooth so even a poor blade will give better or more comfortable shaves. Of course those favorites are even better on my face.

The Spaceman leather case is by far my favorite case and I use it all the time.

This post looks very familiar!  The 8mm nylon washers work great for the 921.  I just wish the handle had a larger diameter.

I have just received my Yates Titanium EH. It's my fist Yates and it looks perfect. Looking forward to my first shave today. Maybe with a Nacet blade

Very impressed with my first shave. Very smooth and close 2-pass shave, maybe closer than my WR2 1.55 SS. I just have to get used to how light is the razor.

This was a Ti 921, 3.75” handle, BB finish, no logo too cap I had, H plate.  Shaved very well!
