FWIW. Customization of plates, metals, handles and engraving of the Yates razor is coming soon. The beta website looks good and you’ll be able to have your stainless, brass or titanium razor made the way you want it. Should be fun

I just finished reading through this entire thread and there is so much good information here!
I cannot wait for my Yates 921-M to arrive with the M, H, and EH plates (all in bead blasted finish).

Thanks! I just wanted to grab everything while it was available in the same finish!

I have seen some of the items (like the stubby handles and the different top caps) have been out of stock for a while and I didn't want to take any chances of wanting to try a different plate and not being able to get it. I also figured that depending on how many days between shaves, one plate may be more applicable than the others. I put myself on the notify list for the stubby handle in bead blasted finish as well.

Maybe after my 14 day new member period expires I can search through the BST forum for more handle options for variety (and read the PMs I cannot access yet ). Smile At least that will force me to stick to one handle for a while.

I had the stubby handle, but found it on the heavy side. I get seller's remorse occasionally but that is what the BST is for, lol!

Did you get the hybrid plate? I think it is only in brass. It has one of the very few open combs that my face likes!

I did not get the hybrid plate. And I believe you are correct that it only comes in brass.

I did read/watch several reviews on it and it did sound like an OC that my face would actually like but I decided I didn't want to keep track of how many shaves I had on which side of a given blade as I would more than likely use the SB side more than the OC side.

I did ponder an all polished brass 921 razor but I didn't know if the polished brass would develop patina and I was not looking to have one more thing to polish (though I know some people like the patina look). I also thought about the extra weight of the razor since it would be heavier than the SS.

You are right, even polished brass will develop patina, although it does so more slowly (at least that has been my experience with a polish brass Karve Christopher Bradley razor). And like you, originally, I wanted to keep track of shaves on the OC side, but I quickly gave up! Too much work! So when I do us it, I just use it and try to let my "it must be counted and balanced" mentality take a vacation, lol.

I am expecting my Yates 921 to be delivered today.

What blades have you found that pair well with the Yates 921 (and for which plate, since I have the M, H and EH coming today)?

I have read that the blades that work well with the Blackbird work well with the Yates 921 but I have not tried the Blackbird either.
I wonder if the 921 works better with sharper blades or works well with any blade.
My go to blade is the Astra SP but I have other blades as well.

Gillette Platinum and Feathers are my favorite blades with my "H" plate

I only have the H plate and I've found that it's not picky with blades really. My go-tos are Astra SP, GSB, Gillette Platinum, and King C. Gillette. All of them are smooth and pair well with the razor.
