First up, the Yates. Thank you, Jake YatesPrecision for fast shipping and an awesome product!

I actually like it more than my brass plate, I don't know why but it has a softer face feel almost Titanium in feel. I enjoy the stonewash coating miles above my Karve Ss in bead blast finish in face feel. Go figure because I was set on getting the electro-polished version when I emailed Jake. GL getting your masters Jake, all the best my man!

I love the results, just not the look. But then again, besides me, who's lookin right?!

From my Journal:
Maiden voyage of the Yates M-921 today.

Wow! I am impressed. The Yuge space between the blade and the bar had me hesitant, but the angle was intuitive, the blade feel practically non-existent, and it was very audible. What struck me while shaving was how it sounded and felt like a single edge, of which I have only the Parker and the Vector to compare to, having not used the Type G Schick yet. But it was an easy feel to historically tough patches, like the jaw hinge point by the ear, the way the anatomy of the jaw curves under. I typically get a bit of burn or roughness there with a DE. The Parker and the Vector handle the geography well, leaving my face smooth there with no irritation. Well, the Yates did the same there, really surprising me, as no other DE does well there unless I really am attentive. And even then, my beloved CB Karve can cause that irritated feeling, instead of that refreshed feel.

I am very glad I added the Yates. I dropped out of the pass around, but am already planning to monitor my shaves closely this week for closeness, and may have to consider the H plate! But no hybrid, as the teeth on the open combs tend to bother my delicate mug! One thing at a time, I need to try going a month without buying more gear. So more shaves with the M plate and let's see what happens!

+ 1 on celestino ‘s post above about the Blackbird handle fitting nicely. Here are a couple pics of a 85mm BB machined finished handle paired with a bead blasted H plate.

Here is another handle (from WCS) that fits very nicely with the YPMH1 head

Shave of Today:

Yates Hybrid plate  //  Grizzly Bay "Metroid" - 26mm V8 Fanchurian  //  JabonMan Eufros - Tobacco  //  Proraso - Menthol and Eucalyptus splash  //  Zingari Man Sego balm

First go with the Yates razor and I'm impressed! To start, I really love the look and feel of the stonewashed finish. It's like the razor is made of river stone. Really unique. I was afraid the handle was too heavy and would throw off the balance, but that wasn't an issue at all while shaving with it. I was also concerned about the non-polished finish feeling "draggy" which to be honest, it is and it's something I'll have to get used to, but that didn't have any effect on the results of the shave. It was smooth, efficient, and very comfortable. I ended up BBS without a hint of irritation! I've had closer shaves, but always with a bit of raw feeling skin on my neck and jawline. Absolutely zero sting with the aftershave or any lingering irritation.

I usually do not like open combs at all, but I thought I would take a chance on this one (hybrid plate) given the positive reviews and the fact that I love the contrasting look of the brass baseplate against the grey stonewashed finish of the rest of the razor. This is the most comfortable open comb I've ever used. To be completely honest I couldn't tell much of a difference between either side.

After just one shave, I'm really happy with the purchase and one of the best parts is supporting a made in the USA small business. Great work on these razors YatesPrecision. I've been trying to do anything I can to buy American made products lately. Our economy desperately needs it right now.
