Thanks!

Their "flagship" model is the complete razor with the "M" plate. In addition they have a brass dual comb hybrid plate with the same geometry as the M plate, and an H plate, which is more aggressive. I think the cheapest place is WCS, as it comes with the M plate and hybrid plate. I usually try to buy direct to support them as much as possible, but I think it is quite a bit more expensive.

There are currently 3 baseplates the M which is medium and the hybrid which is the same as the M but is a dual comb one side SB identical to the M and the other side is OC. The H plate is the more efficient plate but is still very smooth. Jake is working on an even higher efficiency plate to be released soon. If you buy directly from Yates precision you still can get 20% off his leather travel case, which is extremely well made.

Shavemd Love the leather case and I can't wait to resume travel to really use it but so far it has held up and been very useful in my limited travels to date. With the current discount it is a very worthwhile consideration as the Yakes razor yields a very comfortable shave whether using the M or H plates - the brass hybrid is a great everyday compromise and it gets plenty of use even though I still use the H plate regularly.

Marhos24 Agree as I also try to purchase directly from the artisan to give them the support they need to continue with their "cutting edge" R&D but I am sure the larger sites also appreciate the business.

I don't even have mine yet, but I'm super excited from all the reviews! Should be here in a few days. I follow them on Instagram and message Jake from time to time. Very personable guy and runs a good company, one that I'm very proud to support.

So I finally have had the time to use my razor with the H plate. I put in a new Polsilver blade and did just a two pass shave on almost 4 days growth as I wanted to give the razor some serious stubble to mow down. I have to say I was not disappointed at all. I did a WTG and ATG pass and ended up with a mostly BBS shave with a few trouble spots that ended up a  solid DFS and I'm sure with one more pass or some buffing I could have easily achieved a full face & neck BBS level 1. I didn't do an excessive amount of skin stretching which would have gotten me closer as again I wanted to test the razor for evaluation purposes so I wasn't as aggressive as I could have been with my shaving technique for this particular  shave. The razor was above average efficient and if I were to compare it out of memory to some other razors which I really don't like to do as I' would much rather do a side by side shave comparison with another razor but off the top of my head I'd say somewhere between a level 2 OC and Level 3 OC Charcoal Goods and closer to the level 3 so in the upcoming days I will do a Shave Off with the two razors to see if my memory is somewhat accurate. So I had an overall good shave experience and as far as value = performance I'd say this razor is worth every penny! I've got razors costing a lot more than this YSP razor that would take a back seat to the razor performance wise .

The only con I have is the razor feels handle heavy and if I knew that going in as much as I don't like a thin a handle I would have bought the standard handle. I think the issue for me could be taken care of if the handle was somewhat hollowed out some. Some other handle options would be nice. I'm looking forward to the Titanium whenever it comes out.

So good job Jacob on creating a very good razor at a very reasonable price.

Cool a "SHAVE OFF" by the legendary Dragonsbeard just like before the bad people removed your 4500 classic thread at that other site. Can't wait and if you agree send a thumbs up as Frank has a wealth of knowledge stuck in his "soap-obsessed" brain these days.

Oh and Frank you can use any CG handle to lighten that handle heavy shave to improve the experience which is worth it even you don't like to mix & match parts - your face will thank you. Jake has a real winner in this Yates line (made in USA) for sure especially at his reasonable and realistic pricing.
