It's been a year or so since the new wave of enthusiasm over Yates Precision Engineering 921 Razor occurred.  Here and elsewhere, the razor was generally acclaimed as a very efficient tool, liked by many shavers.

I'm interested to know whether or not this razor has continued to please its users now that the "honeymoon" has ended.  If not, why not?  What has supplanted it in your razor arsenal?  What blades worked best, or worst, with the 921?

Thanks for responding!  Shave on!

Still one of my best shavers. My "H" plate paired with a feather blade gives me one of the closest most comfortable shaves very easily.

I have both the M & H plates but mostly use the H plate as I shave every other day. My favorite blades to use are Nacet or Personna platinum. My razor has the stubby short handle. Jake at Yates is nice guy to do business with.

I got some great shaves from the M and the hybrid plates. But I wasn't sold on the face feel of the machined version. I took a chance on a polished one from the BST, and after one shave sold the machined version and some others! It is one of only two DE razors that I don't anticipate ever letting go.

The honeymoon is over, but the Yates Precision 921 is still "the one," my shaving soulmate. I participated in the Yates 921 passaround in 2021, and from the first use it became my favorite razor. I purchased one immediately after sending the passaround razor on. I corresponded with Jake, who responded very quickly. My original thoughts are here:

I had bought a Yates last year with the Hybrid plate. I used it for a few weeks and wasn't enamored with it so I sold it. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and for whatever reason my interest in a Yates razor was rekindled. I picked up a top cap and H plate when I saw them for sale from a member here. Perfect timing! I also grabbed a stubby handle in stonewashed finish directly from Yates to complete the razor. Long story short, I haven't used any of my other razors since. It has worked well with all of the blades I've used with it so far: Astra SP, GSB, Perma-Sharp, Voskhod, Gillette Platinum so it doesn't seem to be picky about blades at all. The other day I bought the EH plate from another hobbyist to see what that one is all about. I'm excited to try it.

Hey guys, I‘m new at the forum and was immediately sold on the topic! I read a lot about those razors and to bad that there are very little around here in Germany. So I made up an order at Yates with the 3.25 stubby handle, with M and H plate. And while reading…I heard about the Wet Shaving Club ‘Merica and order this one as well.

Will pick them up the next days…freaked!

I prefer medium aggressiv razors and shave on daily basis. Use the HLS Taiga Titanium since I pigged that one up on setting 2-3. Otherwise testing out the new RR Lupo .58 at the moment with a good chance of being my favorite!

I usually keep 10 razors in rotation with others I’ll take out when I get the urge. I enjoy the variation that each of these razors gives me. To rate a razor at the top, I want both efficiency and smoothness to be equally high. I only have two razors that meet that for me the Tatara Nodachi and the Yates 921 H bead blast. The Yates EH plate is a wonderfully efficient plate, but doesn’t have the balance of smoothness and efficiency (harmony) like the H plate.

The other 8 razors in my rotation are all first line in mostly SS with 1 brass and 1 Ti.

I’ve been a long time user and enjoy my Yates. My M plate serial number is like 32 while the H and EH plates are all single digits. Compared to similar priced razors or even more expensive ones this is the one I tend to go for using the H plate the most for a 2 pass shave. One of my most comfortable and favorites in my den. I even use the SpaceMsn leather case when I travel as it’s a stellar accessory. No complaints here.
