I owned a BBS-1 back in the day but foolishly sold it to fund another purchase (thinking they wouldn't be discontinued).

The BBS-1 gap was 1.0 mm and I've read several times that the WR2 0.95 mm SB does not shave the same as the BBS-1. For those of you that have used both the BBS-1 and the WR2, which WR2 SB gap is the closest to the BBS-1, would it be a 1.0 mm, a 1.05 mm or something else?

Cheers!

The BBS-1 has a thinner top cap so I would definitely say it shaves more aggressive than the 0.95.

The BBS-1 and Wolfman WR2 shave similarly.  The Wolfman WR2 has a modified design; there were some small tweaks to the design that renders the shave different from the BBS-1. There is a post on another forum that lists each difference (I think there were 10 or 12 modifications) between the old BBS-1 design and the new WR2 design.  I find that the BBS-1 has more blade feel than the Wolfman WR2.  I have a Ti WR2 SB (.94 gap).  Both the BBS-1 and WR2 are excellent and efficient shavers and are works of art.  Once I got my first BBS-1, I stopped using my other razors; it's just that good.  However, I use for Ti WR2 as my travel razor.

It certainly does have a thinner top cap, and ... AFAIC ... the angle of the blade reveal is flatter than that of the WR2. YMMV ... that's just to my eye comparing the two.

I tried to capture that but my camera ... or lack of skill, prevented me from getting a good shot. Here's a photo of the heads side by side where you can see the more robust build of the WR2. Not sure if the difference that I perceive in the blade angle is apparent in the poor photo. The WR2 on the right is a DC 1.15 on the BBS1 side, and a 1.25 on the right.

I like both BTW, but shave more often with a WR1.

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. I'll go with the recommendation from pork and get on the list for a WR2 1.35 SB.

Just an FYI, I’ve asked the past two times my names come up for a WRH2 handle but with WRH1 knurling as well as one of the common bar handles he’s made before. Both times now I’ve been turned down but this time Tara stated “Hopefully when we are through the waiting list he will start making all sorts of custom orders!”. Doesn’t seem to be any end to the waitlist but there’s hope that one day James will accept custom orders again.

Waitlist is shorter but unlikely to be finished any time soon. My last two orders took 2.5 months before making any final decisions.

Aren't scalloped caps and WRH1 handles with H2 knurl considered custom orders nowadays?

I submitted the form on October 18th, received notification to proceed on December 1st. So, approximately 6 weeks wait. One thing that’s good to know is that Tara confirmed they can engrave/label the gap size on bottom of baseplate now. Below is what selected:

WR2-SB 1.25 with WRH7 handle on polished titanium.

A six week wait ! Wow, things have sure slowed down. The economy ain't what it was a couple of years ago. That's a good gap BTW ... on my face/neck.  Smile

Nice to have the gap engraved, I think they all should have been.

For sure, especially if you have more than one WR2….
