Thanks, I’ve seen pics but haven’t seen any side by side pics that really detail the differences easily.

Hello all,

Some help please choosing a Wolfman! I've read (some of) the thread but still need advice, since I can't try the razor beforehand.

First of all I really like efficient razors, as I shave once every 3 - 5 (or 6) days. This doesn't necessarily mean overly aggressive ones though because I'm not fond of too much blade feel (the reason I think the WR2 will suit me better compared to WR1). So for example I really like the Blackbird, Timeless OC 0.95 and the Sabre L2 but not the R41 so much.

From what I've read I'm probably somewhere between the 1.25 and 1.55 SB. Should I go for the 1.55 or is it too much? Some say it's very smooth others not really. What do you think?

If you like the Blackbird, I would recommend nothing lower than 1.45

You shave a lot like me. I could easily use a 1.55 or 1.65 exclusively. They both cut crazy close and are gentle enough to use several days in a row for that blue moon situation. Can't go wrong with either.

I do tend to agree with Mark on most gear. 1.45min is great advice.

Given your shaving frequency and preferences, you should be looking at 1.35. 1.45. 1.55
Now here is where it gets interesting for me.
I owned all three gaps in different materials....1.35 (basic matt), 1.45 (brushed satin) and 1.55 (Ti)

Loved 1.35, Loved 1.55 (still have both)

Did not love 1.45....the question is why?

I think it is the SS factor. Made the razor a little less comfortable than I have gotten used to is what I feel.

I know this is weird, but I experienced a strange anomaly:

The 1.55Ti head was noticeably smoother and more comfortable than than the 1.45 in SS – on my face –
and given the kind of strokes I make while shaving.

So I am leaning to the theory that the ultra high gaps (above 1.35) are not as comfortable in SS, as they are
in Ti.

The 1.35 in SS is just a legendary gap....great for daily and would even work to take down 10 days growth.

As you like the Blackbird,

I would recommend both the gaps you suggested,
Wr2 Dual gap SB with 1.25 & 1.55 gaps,
The 1.25 is close to the Blackbird in efficiency but smoother,
I currently have all the gaps in Wr2, 1.45 being the sweet spot for best smoothness and efficiency, the 1.55 is still smoother than the Bird.

Cant go wrong in my view  Cool

I have all of the WR2 SS gaps from 1.25 through 1.65 in either SB or OC. I shave every other day and I feel like
I could use the 1.55 SB or 1.65 SB exclusively for a while. I am a sucker for the DC version of razors so my last order was a 1.65SB/1.45OC. I also love my DG 1.55/1.35 SB. I love high gap razors and the WR2 high gaps are so smooth that it really doesn’t bother my skin to use them ongoing. Some folks can’t do that but it really is a matter of what you and your skin can take on a regular basis. If and when James starts making titanium again, I will probably get a DC 1.45SB/1.35OC. James would be my ultimate hero if he made an adjustable like the Rocnel Sailor S.

Thank you all for the insights, they've been quite helpful. Especially the Blackbird comparison is very useful given that it's one of my favorite razors. I think it blends the right amount of aggressiveness and smoothness while maintaining high efficiency without becoming uncomfortable (which I find some times the R41 to be). So if I can get something similar from the Wolfman I'm super happy.

On the other hand the reason for considering a Wolfman is not the lack of razors Big Grin - just curious to try it out. I don't plan to get many so the one I end up with (if I go the extra mile after all) would most probably be a stainless steel version (I like heavy razors) with the Mirror Polished finish. To be honest for some reason I'm not fond of DEs with different characteristics on each end so I'll probably go for the solid bar with blade gap... hm here's the tricky part. From what I've read so far I'm leaning towards 1.35mm but there still some reading (and fund raising!) before the final decision. But even if I don't get it 100% right it will still be an efficient razor and a great looking one for that matter. Only thing I've more or less decided is the handle - WRH7 solid 90mm.

Again, thank you all for the contribution!

I'm no handle snob but...the standard WRH7 is too small and dainty for a WR2 head, IMO. It gets head heavy and I'm not really a fan. I like the looks of the 7 and had several but it's much better on a WR1 head. Even then I think it is too small at the grip. The hollow 7XL is a much better combination, for me.

One more thing: are the Wolfman prices in CAD or USD? I believe CAD, USD is way too much (even for Wolfman).

LOOT about the handle are you comparing WRH7 standard vs WRH7 XL hollow? The standard solid is 90gr while the XL hollow 56 gr... So again it would be head heavy. Unless you mean WRH7 standard hollow vs WRH7 XL hollow.
