The WR1 is the one razor that immediately comes to mind that gets smoother as the gap increases. My .94 OC is noticeably smoother to me than my .74 and .86 OC

I’ve experienced it with other razors in general, that I keep pushing that milder one for a closer shave, resulting in irritation, while the more efficient or aggressive one gives me what I want in the two passes I always do. Have heard some report the same of WR2, but indeed more frequently heard in relation to WR1.

I understand what you’re saying. The terms I’m using to describe them are subjective and also somewhat contrary to one another. The .94 has more blade feel but to me it’s also smoother than my lower gap WR1’s.

I actually find my .86 DC smoother than my .74 DC. I thought it was weird when I first got the .86 but it seems to me that more people seem to notice the WR1 being smoother as you get higher in gap. Go figure. I do want a .94 now so that will probably be what I order when my number comes up again......unless James starts offering titanium again.

The WR1 is a uniquely special design, it remains so smooth and forgiving at high gaps, but still responsive and intuitive. I've loved every gap I've tried.

I find the WR1 .74 much smoother than the .94 but the .94 is much more efficient.

I received my 2nd proceed with order email a good while ago, but for various reasons and stuff going on in my life, have pushed the decision back. Looking at effectuating now. While a cracker both to behold to hold, so to speak, the Wr2 1.15 / WRH7 Std hollow combo doesn’t always get me that clean, friction free shave I’d like. I can manage to get irritation and a weeper or two PLUS a not overly close shave. User error is certainly on the list of potential culprits, I won’t blame it on the razor. Question is, will going DOWN in gap serve me better, or going UP? If going up, I’d probably be going two steps, just to get to a real difference, ie 1.35. I’m a daily shaver for the most part, but my best shaves are always on two or three days of growth.

Thoughts? Have recently been enjoying my Karve, both the D and the F plate, but mostly the latter. Amazed at how smooth such an “aggressive” razor is. No biting whatsoever (unlike CG Lvl3 which I can also enjoy but which certainly demands more respect and care - Lvl2 is smoother there, but the middle point would probably have served me best.)

(Yeah, I know, there’s really only one way to find out...)

Oh, and Drew drewyoshida  - that was indeed one impressive takedown. Mowing as a synonym for shaving was rarely more fitting!

Thanks, Halvor! I agree with you that shaves are better on a couple days growth vs 1. It gives your skin more time to heal and also allows efficient razors to work better. The WR2 on long growth is much better then using it for daily shaving, imo. I've determined that the WR2 1.05 is amazing for face shaving but not so much for dome shaving.

Can you still get a WRH3/7 combo handle or no?
