It's interesting how we're all different. I bought my first Wolfman directly from James years ago (for $155 USD). A .74 WR1 OC, which was the "aggressive" version of the WR1. It was (and remains) a beautiful piece, but I found it too mild at the time, and put it in a drawer. I dug into it again last August, and really enjoyed it for its ease of use and efficiency. In early September (the 6th, to be exact), I wrote James to ask if there was any way to buy a WR2 without getting lucky on his drops. He wrote me about his brand-spanking-new email ordering system. I ordered a WR2 1.35 OC on the 6th, and received it about 2-1/2 weeks later. I adore both my WR1 and WR2.

On September 30, I signed up for a WR2 1.55 OC. I got the order email a couple of weeks ago, but deferred my purchase so I can honor my sabbatical commitment. Also, as I avoid shaving deliveries to my home and instead use my office, and haven't been to my office since March 4, I can wait. I do look forward to the 1.55 OC...

So are the Wolfman OC plates really more aggressive than the SB? Because I've heard people say they have the same exact blade feel.

are you guys going to force my hand in closing yet another wolfman thread?  I really can't be bothered with wolfman threads that ALWAYS need to be closed.  let's please leave this one alone without all the drama.

Andrew, I completely agree with you ... if there is a member who doesn't seem to be getting the message and keeps stirring the pot ... perhaps removing that individual would be a better option ?

I don't see any real incentive for Wolfman(the company) to have a pass around.  They sell every razor they make so providing one for pass around is one less that is going to be sold as new.  The next one I am going to order is the 1.45 WR2 solid bar.  I have a 1.45 WR2 OC that I think is a bit too aggressive for me.

I tend to agree with you and being that wolfman razors are expensive, well-established, have an incredibly long wait time and basically sell themselves, I don't see much benefit to wolfman to offer one up for a pass around.

I have now had my WR2 1.55 for over a week. I have had enough shaves to safely say that I love this razor. I did cut myself on the lip in one of those days but that was mostly due to me being careless. I wasn't being careful enough, especially considering the blade gap. I went 5 straight days shaving with it and its great. I didn't really need to shave daily because it keeps my skin bbs far longer than any other razor I own. It is extremely smooth if you are getting the angle down correctly. It provides enough feedback that makes it easy to get your angle down. I'm still no expert in shaving so I struggle occasionally with angle and pressure but I have enjoyed my razor very much. For now, I still have an itch to get an OC and also a titanium wolfman, if one ever opens up.

I have now had my WR2 1.55 for over a week. I have had enough shaves to safely say that I love this razor.

It is, for me, the finest razor in the world....I highly recommend trying to get one in titanium.

This thread is long as in very very long (nearly 4000 posts from October 2018). I commend the regulars for keeping it active and relevant. There are some general themes that repeat often as in what gap should I get, this is the gap I'd recommend and look what I got with an abundance of opinions throughout. This has been helpful and useful but how to decide what to get has been an overwhelming theme.

Let me comment based on my experience. I had never been able to get a Wolfman and the prior random drops just did not work for me nor was the secondary market an option. There certainly was never a pass around which can be useful for new artisans / razors but may not always be a viable business model. So even though I have had the opportunity to review prototypes, participate in pass arounds and provide comparison shaves with other razors I had never actually used nor seen a Wolfman in person.

Well here comes the beauty of these forums where like-minded hobbyists congregate and discuss all minutia. I reached out (ie spoke) to several members who I have become friends with to see if they would let me borrow their beloved Wolfman razors. No problem as we paid for insurance, tracking and confirmed deliveries such that over a 3-4 month period I tried multiple gapped WR1 and WR2 razors in both Ti and stainless finishes. I thank my shaving brethren for their generosity and trust and continue to call them friends - something I have been fortunate to obtain from participation in these forums. In that way I was able to confidently figure out what future Wolfman "could" be in my den.

So, as previously posted, I sent James a custom email request for a Titanium WR2 in July 2019 which he answered informing me that he would need some time but to contact me later in August to set it up. True to his word in late August I ordered a custom WR2 Titanium which was delivered in mid September about 2 weeks into his new wait list system. I have not been disappointed with my choice due to the assistance and generosity of my friends. Just my experience and 2 cents.

What gap?

RE Wolfman OC v SB; from my experience the delta of perceived aggressiveness more accurately characterized as increased face feel is least manifested in the Wolfman line than any other razor (particularly in SS whereas in Ti at least 2 other manufacturers manage to literally obliterate the difference, foremost being H&S).

All my personal Wolfman razors are DC, using the OC for first pass then SB for subsequent passes. Will stipulate finding the WR2 in SS having a subtly more aggressive face feel perhaps equal to a 0,05 gap increase but nothing to cause great concern or weigh negatively in the decision to purchase (presuming one likes OC baseplates). Suspect the relative similarity of OC v SB baseplate feel amongst the more regarded manufacturers results from the care and execution of machining leading to their reputation and success
