Your Filarmonica 8/8 is quite the fine Axe indeed, A 7/8 Thiers Issard Spartacus is my go to.
If I remember correctly is your 1.55 a SS?
A De is certainly more convenient than a straight which is why it has been my mission to find the closest comparable shave to a straight from a De, Including modding razor geometry.
I have no doubt that a big gap Wr2 is easily the most comparable De razor to a straight, however, a mass produced De blade will always limit the ultimate smoothness/closeness achievable from a De.....

I agreed straight razors are much smoother than shavette.
I prefer to mostly use 8/8 filarmonica 14.
But my WR2 1.55 is giving smoother, more comfortable and more efficient shave than my straights. 
May be I am not pro in stropping or not in straight razors, but I enjoy more with WR2 than my straight razors.

I am aware that shavettes differ from straights....but my thinking is that if I can use a shavette to try and nail
down some basic technique and strokes, then using a straight should, in theory, be much easier.

As to whether a 1.45 rivals a straight or a 1.55...I have both and IMO it is the 1.55 Ti that easily takes the top honours,
both for efficiency and smoothness.

Straights still have certain limitations when it comes to going XTG on the neck....with a DE it's no problem.

I sold all my feather Artist club razors as I still find traditional Straight blades easier, the sharper the Straight the easier the shave is achieved. I would suggest anyone who wants to try straight blade shaving to start at 5/8 size and go for it, quality/slickness of lather also plays a big part. In my experience a Straight is less likely to bite than a Shavette or Artist club razor.........of course YMMV.......

Today I finally got chance to use the new Darwin Dual Sb, also I received the Declaration B8 from the Bst with thanks to Nachum.
So to the shave, Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed the shave of this Dual Sb, the Darwin handle is on the small side for my hands but grip was fine, I hope JD produces the Darwin in an XL size. The 1.45 side of the razor I am already familiar with and I just gave a one pass WTG on 48hrs growth before proceeding to the remaining passes focusing only on the 1.05 side, this is one crazy SMOOOTH but efficient razor, I would give efficiency the edge to the Wr2 over the BBS-1 though the 1.05 is way smoother with no apparent blade feel-just silent mowing of stubble, I also put the 1.05 above the Wr1 .74 for me.
I enjoyed this shave so much I continued a three pass shave plus buffing on the 1.05 sb side..further to the initial 1.45 pass.
The shave was smooth and fantastic all the way, having the option of the dual Sb has blown me away by the sheer versatility, and combined with the Darwin handle this is an Amazing razor! I preferred the weight distribution of the Wr2 Darwin to the Wrh7/Wrh2 combination. 
Enjoyment of the shave is not just about efficiency but the joy of a single razor as a whole and this has the X factor for me.

Sadly I now have to justify my 5 razor rotation rule! I could easily have just one razor in my Den with this one alone, but what about the mighty BLackbird, the BBS-1, The Wr1? 
A can of worms has now been opened........OH MY RAD!!!.

It's sound like you got along great with the razor. This Darwin handles sure have a classical look.

A good Friend of mine loaned me his Wolfman Ti WR2 1.55 SB with XL WRH2/3 Handle. The largest gap WR2 I had shaved with prior to this was 1.35 in SS as well as in Ti. I had no issues shaving with the 1.55, I shaved with it just as I would with the 1.15. I did a full three pass Shave with no nicks or weepers. My Shave lasted a full 16 hrs. before I started to feel any stubble. I don’t know if I’d be able to handle a 1.55 in SS, but the Ti was outstanding with the ‘soft’ face feel I’ve come to expect. The 1.55 was very efficient as well as being very smooth. I wouldn’t be able to shave with this one every day, but for two or three days growth no problem. I look forward to putting more time in with this one, such a beautiful piece.
