Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

I really appreciate your recommendations guys!! After all your great advice I’m leaning towards a DC 1.25/1.35 SB. This will serve me well for all 3 passes, I think.

I think that is a good combination. The 1.25 is smooth as silk. I also think you're on the right track in choosing the higher gap in SB. 

Since I have a few DCs I've noticed that when I use a standard SB or OC I tend to use one side for the WTG, and the other side for the ATG ... just from force of habit gotten in habitually using DCs.

JimmyH Thank You, means alot from you guys giving me good advice.I have strong confidence that this combination will work out. I will probably end up doing the same thing, use one side for WTG and another for ATG.
What shaving angle do you guys tend to use with your Wolfmans?

For shaving angle you'll have to wait for someone more analytical than I am. For me it is intuitive. I just adjust to the sweet spot once I find it and don't really think about it.

Here are my quick impressions of a WR2 OC 1.45 compared to a WR 1 OC 0.86 after using both multiple times:
The wr1 feels more aggressive and has more blade feel to me. I know to be really careful with the WR1 but with the WR2 the reduced blade feel makes me maybe a little less careful and I get one or two weepers.
Once I'm done the shave itself is comparable.
If someone has a WR-1 that they really like, my feeling is that there's no need to pay market prices to get a WR2. Just order from the site and wait.
My WR-2 has less blade feel than ATT H-1 and H-2 also less than Muhle R-41 and CG level 3 OC. It is much more aggressive than my Timeless 0.95 OC.
It's comparable to my NEW LC vintage Gillette.

I contacted James and I asked about the exposure.  I think this information might help some other as well.  The exposure is neutral on the 115 WR2.  He suggested that a 125 is similar to the WR1 74.  Now, I'm thinking either a 125 OC or I might do a DC with 125 OC and 135 SB.

This is the first real objective reference of blade exposure regarding the WR2 that I can recall. It seems we’re all well aware through our trials that blade feel increased as gap increased but the mathematical neutral exposure starting point was not clear...at least to me.  Is it safe to assume that smaller gaps than the 1.15 are all negative exposure and that gaps larger are all positive exposure?

That would be my assumption because the shaving angle changes as the gap increases/decreases.

I received my "proceed with order" email today.I went with a 1.25 WR2 basic polish on a hollow wrh2 handle.
FYI, I placed my order around 11:30pm Central on Sept 6th.

I have tried WR1 (SB&OC) and WR2 heads (SB) and prefer WR2 because it does the work with greater smoothness.
More specifically, I've compared a 1.45SB against a 0.86SB...the latter is a great gap and razor but the 1.45 simply
excelled in efficiency and smoothness was considerably higher. For some reason I find the angle far more easily
in the WR2 head. Simply put, WR2 is a more refined experience for my face.

I have to say Im a little baffled that JD equates a 1.25 WR2 with a 0.74mm WR1...for me the WR2 versions are fractionally
more efficient than their direct WR1 equivalents.....so, 1.15 a little more than 0.80 and so on.

Having used both a NEW LC and RFB vintages, I found the latter to be more efficient than the former....it was perhaps just
slightly less efficient than my WR1 0.80 OC head. What a subjective area this is.

I have found the shaving angle to be quite consistent with the WR2 SB heads, from moderate to high gaps.

Amazing that, more than three months later, he’s still filling orders from the very first evening that the Google order form was opened up. He must have a couple years worth of orders, at least.

That’s probably true, although I would think that the majority of entries came in the few days. James did say that current orders will ship the 27th or 30th, with Christmas. I’ll be looking forward to the Wolfman in the new year. I have some other razors I can use in the meanwhile.

The Wolf arrived on Monday.   To put in context it's my first WM and like many I wrestled with the which gap to choose conundrum. Having the benefit of reading this thread multiple times and the input based from many members I chose the 1.25 SB. I couldn't resist having the head in Mirror Polish. For the WR2 and stand in i chose Basic polish.  The mirror polish is, as more than one person has posted, like jewelry. Absolutely a work of art. I decided the inaugural shave would also be the first for a new Paladin along with GD Pre - Shave, Mandarin Bay and a new Polsliver, which is my blade of choice when trying a new razor. I must admit there was a bit of caution as the 1.25 would be the most aggressive razor in the den. Let's get right down to it - best shave of my life.  It just skated WTG, XTG, AGT so smoothly. Almost no blade feel except for ATG which I expected. No issues under the nose where it can somewhat tight, no irritation and finding the right the angle was intuitive. Basically, it was an amazing first date. The second shave just as good as the first. What I find somewhat funny and equally scary is that before I even finished the first shave I thought that I can easily handle a higher gap. (Let's see what happens when I try a feather.) Bring on the 2020 Ti google form!!! If the 1.25 was the highest gap James offered this would be my grail. I am one very very happy shaver and all the hoops and anticipation in getting a WM was well worth it. I echo what others have said about the higher gaps - do not be afraid that you will slice your carotid artery, bleed out on your cold bathroom floor and the last words you will hear is your better half saying I told you this shaving thing will be the end of you.
