Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

Starman Thanks for the review and the lovely photos. I recall one member, cannot recall who, that asked James if he would build a WR2 @ 1.68 IIRC. James declined saying he would have to redo his machine settings. Maybe over 1.55 is too much of a good thing ?

Your indifferent results on this shave may have been a result of the 1.72 gap, or maybe something else. I know that some days it may be the blade, my technique, or even my mood. I'm going to experiment with some of my other favorites the next few days.

Blackbird a couple of days ago, Timeless .95 or CG Lv 3 today and following. Shaving every other day. As it stands now my uncontested favorite razor is the WR2. 

Having a DC 1.15 OC/1.25 SB, and a 1.25 OC, I cannot decide if I prefer OC or SB. I'd like to come to a conclusion, though the fact that I like both isn't a bad thing.

If my number ever comes up I imagine I'll order a DC 1.55 and push the envelope that much. For some reason I'm not into shimming the razor. I guess it seems like there might be variables I couldn't figure out, and it would be more trouble than it is worth to me personally. I'm interested to those who experiment with it though.

I have a 1.45 Gap Dc! Damn 
I bought it as a 1.25 but hey, I'm ok with this, even the OC was ok for me on my first shave.

It all makes sense now...............REALLY............

I prefer the shave I get from the Wr2 1.45 to the 1.72.....
This also confirms what I have previously stated re: opening blade gaps which increases blade angle-causing a less smooth & efficient shave, effectively dragging the blade some.

How would one measure the gap on a WR plate ? I've got a micrometer, and a dail caliper.

Indeed I asked for a 1.85 and got a similar answer JimmyH. Anything over 1.55 seems to have issues with the 4 corners on the top-cap and how they fit with the base along with the blade guard being too small.

Although I am glad I received such an answer as I decided to make my own razor for personal use. I got my first renders of it yesterday alongside asking for a few tweaks and design changes. Am excited to see how this turns out.

Feeler gauges would be fine if you have some

JimmyH the definition of blade gap is the distance of the edge of the cutting surface of the blade to the top of the blade guard. The easiest way to measure would be to take two different measurements and subtract them together. You could technically measure it diagonally and use the Pythagorean Theorem to measure the gap but I am too lazy for that haha.

So the "easy" say would be to measure the total height of the blade guard (measurement 1) then measure the distance of the base of the blade guard to the cutting edge of the blade (measurement 2). Then you would take (measurement 2) and subtract it from (measurement 1) to get the distance from the top of the blade guard to the cutting edge which is your blade gap.

Thanks! Glad you chimed in. I didn't even think of mentioning using gauges as a solution to his question. Which is funny as I use them all the time to measure how low my brake pads are getting. Much easier then taking measurements using a caliper for those that have them around

LOVE IT! Not sure how practical it is. Am reading the post now but definitely put a smile / chuckle on my face. I love how awesome shaving enthusiast can be
