Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

So here is a question to all....

Based on quality & closeness of shave and skin feel post shave & including the following 24hrs, (the forums are full of razor shave comparisons but not of the direct question posed....)

How would a wr2 1.15 or 1.25 compare with the Blackbird sb? (The BB with 2 passes gives me a noticably better (closer/smoother) shave than the wr1 .74 - .86 based on next day skin feel/stubble)

Input appreciated....

Depending on who you ask, the Blackbird SB efficiency has been likened to a WR1 0.74 mm or 0.80 mm SB head.
I thought the latter was the right equivalent. Which means the 1.15SB should land you in Blackbird territory.
The 1.15 will however feels a lot smoother and comfortable on the face as it doesn't have a sharp guard like the
BB.

I have a WR1 .74 OC and Blackbird OC. On my face, the Blackbird is more efficient, but with buffing I can achieve a similar shave with the Wolfman. I enjoy them both a great deal. I'm fairly new with my WR2 1.35 open comb, but it may be my favorite of the three.

As a Straight shaver my ongoing DE goal has been to achieve the closest possible shave to compare with the Straight but with added convenience, the bar is set high, of course a DE is a different Animal.
JimmyH greatly peaked my Interest with his comment in a previous post that the Wr2 1.55 shaved like a Straight.
I parted with my Wr1 .74 oc as it was lacking efficiency for me personally in comparison to others in the den, I still have a Wr1 .74-.86 and also for me this falls behind the mighty Blackbird by a margin, as such I am struggling to justify keeping the Wr1 in rotation.

So, with my Incoming Invoice the Wr2 I choose must match the BB++ to earn its place in the Den as a keeper.

Based on the above input received I'm leaning towards a minimum 1.25, maybe the 1.25/1.45 dual Sb would be perfect for me and put it into pole position, even the BB poles at No.3 in my rotation for efficiency/smoothness. The BB blade feel is no problem or are the guard edges as the smoothest most efficient shave from the Bird for me is acheived riding slightly on the cap, also on blade feel..........compared to a Straight?
Of course if a De razor has blade feel with a tendancy to bite that is a different story...

No doubt I shall continue to dwell on the ideal until that moment comes.......  

Here is an interesting comparison. I have had a .74 DC WR1 for quite some time. On a recent drop I added a .94 WR1 DC. I have a few Wolfman DEs with various handles, and I change handles on the various heads to try and find the 'right' combination between handle and head.

So I reached into the herd and picked up a WR1 DC thinking it was the .94. I began to shave and thought 'my ... this .94 is soooo smooth and close. I finished the shave before I realized I had grabbed the .74.

I have Blackbird SB and OC. I find the Wolfman in any gap from .74, .86, .94, 1.15, 1.25 to be smoother. For me they all have blade feel, but the BB is a bit more abrasive. Maybe that is just me. Don't get me wrong, I love the Blackbird.

The 1.55 is in a class by itself. I don't know if any of y'all were on the old Straight Razor Place ... but I was a moderator there for years, with the screen name JimmyHAD. I shaved with straight razors exclusively for years, and if you want the closest equivalent go 1.55.

If it doesn't suit you it will sell for what you have in it quickly.

Because I favour heavy Ss razors I was erring on the side of caution reckoning a 1.45 ss may be similar to the Ti 1.55?

Happy to hear comparative input on these two..1.45 ss Vs 1.55 Ti.

Maybe LOOT could chime in on the 1.45, not sure. I recently bought a WR2 1.25 OC from a forum member. If Christopher Bradley (Karve Shaving) is correct, an OC will be .10 higher in blade gap than an SB. 

So if that is accurate my 1.25 OC is the equivalent of a 1.35. I still haven't figured out whether it feels different than my 1.25. My WR2 1.15 OC/ 1.25 SB feel the same, and my Karve G SB and F OC also feel the same ... but it is highly subtle/subjective. Some very knowledgeable wet shavers have told me they see no difference between OC and SB of the same gap.

Anyway ... if I were you I'd go the 1.55 ... which is what I intend to do when my number comes up. Except I'm going 1.55 WR2 DC ! So if the Karve assertion about OC versus SB is correct I'll be shaving with a 1.65 equivalent !!
