I agree with you completely, you don’t want to be fooling around or guessing when purchasing a $700 Razor. In terms of efficiency I would say my Blackbird is comparable to my .80 SB and OC WR1’s. I didn’t have good luck with the CG lvl 3 either, definitely not smooth on my face.
You probably made a good decision going with the 1.45, better too aggressive than not aggressive enough in my opinion. If the Gap is a bit much it can always be fine tuned and dialed back with a less aggressive Blade.

On my face, the CG L3 is in between a 1.25 and a WR1 94. It's not as efficient as a 135 and not as smooth as any WR1 or WR2 that I've used. The L3 is a very good shaver. The L2 was much better for me though still not as good as a 115 or a WR1 80OC.

Someone asked about a Karve...I bought one with the D and E plates. I used the E plate one time and sold it all. It's not as good, to me, as the CG razors I had and certainly wouldn't replace any Wolfman I ever used. I'm a total fanboy.

The Karve and CG's have their advantages over a Wolfman...none being shave quality.

Well, I would have thought the 1.45 would be noticeably more efficient than either the Lvl 3 or the BB.

My 0.86 WR1 SB gets me in that ballpark easy.

There is indeed so much perceived variation out there from user to user. Fwiw a buddy of mine finds the 1.45 on par with the lvl 3 efficiency-wise. We both find the lvl 3 to be fantastic and very smooth. To me it's smoother than the 0.8 WR1 I had but not as smooth as this 1.45 WR2. Once again keep in mind that I shave every 2-3 days and use DEs only 10% of the time, so I am not as steeped in the minutiae of safety razors as many contributors to this thread seem to be.

You being a straight razor shaver can you use that 1.45 on a daily basis, or do you know yet where it falls in to your program?

My face doesn't enjoy being shorn daily, so I'm afraid this would be mere speculation on my part. I do have an unpopular theory that with proper technique just about any blade gap should provide a serviceable shave, so in principle I don't see why it couldn't be used and enjoyed daily if your face was accustomed to such a regime. However, for a daily shaver, this degree of efficiency is likely unnecessary.

Just got my 1.45 WR2 in Titanium, got an excellent smooth shave this am   Posted a few pics next to my Polished WR1 Titanium That is 3 years old. The new brushed Ti is not as shiny and you can see lines under the top cap but overall very nice shave.

I find the CG Lv3 very efficient, and the SB smooth, the OC not as smooth, but not something that can't be recognized and allowed for when using. The Lv2 SB is too mild for me, while the Lv2 OC is both smooth, and efficient. 

The SS WR2 DC 1.15 OC/1.25 SB is great. I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about the SS WR1 .94 DC.

I wonder if I could trouble you to post the weight of that 1.45 Ti razor...
