Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

The handle is 80mm. The razor is not for sale at this very moment, but may be eventually. Currently adjusting to a new 1.45mm WR2 in Ti and very much enjoying it.

Im very curious abut the 1.45 gap SB as I have one incoming shortly.
I got fed up of moving up the chain in .10mm increments and decided
to test the outer limits of the efficiency that would work for me on a rough
steel wool type of growth.

But I still have room in my line-up for a daily driver like a 1.25

Would you have time to expand on your experience so far with the 1.45?

Thus far only two shaves in, but to give you a reference point, the CG lvl 3 is my idea of the 'perfect DE' in terms of efficiency. I also find it very smooth. The Blackbird too is fantastic to me in that there is a decent amount of blade feel and it successfully mows down whatever is in its path without requiring extra strokes or frequent rinsing. I shave every 2 or 3 days, sometimes less frequently. I use straight razors 90% of the time and for my own reasons prefer these to DEs, but I still enjoy the latter on occasion to keep things fresh or when I'm feeling more rushed. So I do enjoy more efficient razors, and I would place the 1.45 in said category. I don't think it has as much blade exposure as the lvl 3, but there is a sufficient amount IMO. From my limited experience I might also say that it is appreciably smoother. I could see myself trying 1.55 for even more blade feel, but I don't suppose it would make a huge difference in terms of efficiency or my overall enjoyment of the experience.

Prior to this Ti I had a 0.8mm WR1 OC and the 1.25mm WR2 OC (both SS). For me 1.25 is a very nice blade gap, but I must take my time with it because it clogs up faster than I am used to with straights. I think you were wise to go up to 1.45, as the difference is appreciable, and I do much prefer the latter given my stated personal preferences.

You're not putting the 1.45 in the same efficiency bracket as CG Lvl 3 and BB...right?

I would say it is getting close to the same bracket... but not quite as efficient.

Came across a SOTD pic with this razor tagged as a WR2 1.25 OC
Head looks scalloped? I didn't know this was an accepted 
modification? Wouldn't want to request it but curious nonetheless.
I had a scalloped Timeless head once, and was baffled as to what the
benefit of it was apart from the distinctive looks.

The story is that I landed an SS in a drop before the pricing increase. I requested a modification to my order by email immediately thereafter, which James granted. As I was reviewing my specs, a friend of mine mentioned the scalloped head, so out of curiosity I asked James if it would be possible and if so, at what price. He never responded. Three weeks later I got the razor in the mail and it had this scalloped head Quite the surprise indeed.

The scallop is part of what makes this razor special IMO. Aesthetically I think it's neat. Functionally, I don't know that it makes much of a difference, but the grooves do change the feel of the top cap against the face. It seems to echo the open comb in that respect.

I would say it is getting close to the same bracket... but not quite as efficient.

Maybe I should add I just recently acquired one of those (Lv3 CG)  so that ring a bell in my thought process. One more thing I happened to think about. You being a straight razor shaver can you use that 1.45 on a daily basis, or do you know yet where it falls in to your program?

My 0.86 WR1 SB gets me in that ballpark easy.

And you're right, results can vary. Those varying results makes it interesting and fun, to me.
