Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

I didn't think the budget polished finish looked too bad in the pics. The video changed my opinion, however. If I was going to buy my first Wolfman, and wanted to opt for the less expensive finish, I would definitely choose brushed over polished. IMO, the new polished finish doesn't look good.

Agreed...the first video makes it look as if the surface has some sort of haze marks on it, like
a used razor.

It must be noted that he doesn't call it basic/polished but basic/textured
well, it has texture for sure.

Let's hope basic/matte looks better.

Keep in mind I purposely tried my hardest to make the razor look bad in those videos. It's really only possible to see the "haze" in harsh light while rotating the razor. In person it doesn't look hazy, and in photos it looks excellent. Check the side by side comparisons posted above.

James is a perfectionist, and his mirror polish is perfect. For instance, a pre-WWII S&W, or say a Winchester rifle with an octagon barrel ... the flats are sharp. The nomenclature is sharp and defined. One of the ways you can spot a refinished firearm is those features will be diminished.

My Blackbird machine finished OC has well defined flats. When they were offered polished I bought one and the flats were rounded. I sold the SB & OC polished Blackbirds because of that.

If you have the opportunity to check out the Wolfman Darwin handle it is perfectly mirror polished, and the flats are sharp.

I had a Satin finished WR-1 that I sold, and it was gorgeous. If I get the opportunity to score on a future drop I'm going for the Satin polish. I have the mirror in WR-1 three times over. The variation will be nice, and I have confidence that it will be equal, if not superior, to the WR-1 Satin I had.

What do you mean by rounded vs sharp flats?

So has anyone quantified the polish results with a Gloss Meter ? Your subjective feeling aside I think it would be interesting as there are plenty of stainless steel razors that offer polished finishes. I am sure someone has the proper engineering/metallurgy experience to clarify this value.

This is not my polished blackbird, I sold my polished SB & OC, and deleted the photos afterwards. Got this from another seller's ad.

The machine finished B-bird below, shown next to the Darwin handle, demonstrate 'Flats' I think. Also a Marlin rifle I have showing the flats on the octagon barrel being sharp and distinct.

Compare the razor heads, mine and the polished one shown and I think you can see the flats are rounded off on the polished B-bird head.

Not so the Darwin or the Marlin rifle. That is what I mean by flats.

I think he meant sharp edges that are rounded off when polished vs sharp edges that remain sharp edges when polished

WR2 1.05 SB + WRH2 90mm Hollow.

Now it's waiting for the arrival.

Have a WR2 Ti 1.15. Slicing my face up with feathers. I use it as a daily shaver. What blades are you guys using? Will try a Astra SP tomorrow.

PolSilver is a great alternative to a Feather when the Feather is too harsh in a razor.  I love Feather blades in a bunch of my razors but I chose PolSilvers in my more aggressive razors.  I find my WR2 1.25 extremely smooth with a Feather but if you are having issues with them, try a PolSilver in it.  I find them extremely sharp but smoother to deal with.

Tried an Astra SP with the 1.15 SB yesterday and it worked great. Nice and smooth!

Can someone please comment on how a ti 1.25 wr2 compares to a SS 1.15 wr2? Thanks
