Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

Congrats, lovely set. Is the standard sized handle on the left a brushed finish, and the larger on the right polished ? Appears that way to me in the photos.

Do you know if James will furnish a stand for the larger handle on request ?

Finally, please update your impressions on the shave with that gap ?

Thank you! Yes, regular handle is brushed and larger one is polished. I used it only for comparison of measurement and shape.

Re: Stand - This is question for James but as you can see on the picture bellow it works with WRA1 very good and I don´t think you need another stand than WRA1.

Re: Update of impressions - Still very impressed and I am in love with this head. I recently sold WR2 .95 which was too mild to my tastes. 1.25 is right choice for me. I am decided to buy 1.15 also although I have BBS-1 which is 1.05-1.15 territory. I found I prefer in smaller gaps WR1 to WR2 and WR2 1.25 prefer to WR1 .80, .86 and .91. WR1 .91 is slightly more efficient but considerably less smooth. For those who like stronger blade feel is WR1 better option.  

Are you a daily shaver? I'm asking it because I never understand this point (and I don't think someone would need a 1.25 for daily shaves to acquire what he has to acquire: a BBS). Thanks.

No problem Yuri . I agree with you I don´t need that aggressive razor but I want. I enjoy my shaves better. I shave six - seven days a week so no 365 days a year … I can use (especially in summer time) WR1 .91 or Muhle R41 (2013) on daily basis without any single cut or weeper. I can sometimes read that guys with bad technique need more aggressive razors. Maybe, but is my technique really such poor when I can use aggressive razors without any problems?
I have in my den some mild razors which I occasionally use, enjoy and they give me BBS. RS-10 mild plate or Gillette Techs for example. But I need three passes instead of two in case of more aggressive razors and shaving with mild razors isn´t such enjoyable for me.

I think, insert standard/implied weasel word qualifier here, there are two different WRA1 stands. One to accommodate the "original" sized 1,2,3, and 7 handles. The 2nd accommodates the larger dia. 7XL and 7XL hybrids, maybe others. *Edit, LOOT answered own question below*

Essentially there are 2 puck stands with different dia. Holes. If you order a complete set, he builds the stand to match the razor in the bix.

If you order an extra stand, specify exactly which handle the extra is going in it....lest you get the wrong one, which if you are smart, would work to your benefit.

The small diameter handles certainly fit in the larger dia pucks, but not so much in reverse.

It's been a few months since I had the conversation directly with James. We had a little snafu to work through with stands and the very topic came up.

I can certainly verify later this evening when I'm clean enough to handle the gear....if there are specific questions. I'm no expert, but I have examples of both.

Also, I am almost certain there are two different sized hybrid handles. One is based on the smaller dia original 3 handle. The other, all of mine, are based on the larger dia. 7XL. It is hard to tell them apart in photographs, for sure. I fell for the first 7XL I held. So the subsequent handles we're all 7XL based.

Oh yeah, James also told me any of the original handles could be XL'd. He specifically mentioned the 3 handle as an example. Which now, I realize, would likely be a stellar handle. *LOOT make'm note"

For today's shave with the 80 OC I put on the Darwin handle (57 gms)

What an amazing difference...it was like whole different razor....was able to
sling it around faster and with a much lighter touch obviously. Total weight came in
at 85gm, which is about the same as one of my vintage stalwarts: the Gillette Aristocrat from the #16 set.

Im permanently switching the WR1 head to Darwin and will use the WRH1 hollow with the WR2 head.
The extra smoothness of the WR2 will hopefully mitigate any heaviness of the WRH1.

Bit bummed to concede that heavy handles just aren't for me. I wish Wolfman did some different handles that came in around the 60gm
mark.

I have been using my WR2 1.15 SB, WRH2 Hollow 90mm for the last 4 days. I think this is fine for a daily 3 pass shaver - not the most aggressive, not really mild either. I have not been able to get a 100% BBS without some extra strokes though. I found ATG pass a bit less comfortable during first two days, but since then I think I have found a more comfortable angle. I am using Wizamet blades - which I use for 90% of my shaves.

I do get a bit of alum/aftershave sting after my shave with this razor which I am hoping will go away with more practice. So far I am satisfied with the razor, do not have any regret about the purchase, but not blown away either.

I don't follow a strict rotation - but some razors I use regularly - 34C, BlackBird, Charcoal Goods level 2, R41, Fatip Grande, REX, Karve D, Rockwell 6S, GameChanger 84, ATT S1 ... I might be forgetting a few. I had a WR1 0.67 but sold it - was an okay razor, but not great in any way (other than looks)

I also use straight razors or Feather AC razor for 40-50% of my shaves.

I also do not have a preference for Mild/Aggressive razors - I use both 34C and R41 and enjoy them for what they are.

I’m going to attempt to get a WR2 head on one of these drops. I’m sure I’ve missed it at some point in this thread, but how is the blade feel of the 105 or 115 OC compared to a Timeless 95 OC or Karve F OC (those are my only large gap razors).

I cant really say for sure what the problem is...but I can say that for me the 1.15SB is a little more efficient and smoother than a CG Lvl 2.
Because the WR2 does not have much blade feel and not a lot of audio feedback after the first pass, it may sometimes be hard to tell if you
are maintaining the right angle. That's all I got.

I find the 1.15 very kind to my neck area especially on upward and sideways passes.

I think I know what you mean - it is a bit more deceptive than say CG2 or blackbird. So one have to rely on muscle memory over feebdack. Paradigm Ti-II was like that for me as well.
