A credit card or plastic shim is approximately 0.3 mm in thickness which equals about 3 DE shims. Also fabricating a “credit card” shim for a WR1 or most other razor head is difficult at best whereas creating one for the “edge secured” WR2 top cap is relatively easy. Either way it’s tricky to load and you’ve got a very wide gap to work with. Going up 0.3 mm on any razor no matter how smooth is a challenge your face may not like.

+1

Considering normal geometry, I agree.
A new one like that of the Focus Tritok R51 Flat, responds well and without problems.
Personally, I even find it necessary to add 0.2mm (two shims) to have useful gap and exposure.

I've never had any issues with a DE blade used as a shim. Doesn't rust and it's easy breezy to load. Just like the SE shim blade I've made. Of course I never leave any blade or shim loaded in my razor after shaving. Rinse and dry. I ground away the cutting edge and slightly muted the ends. Took me less than 5 minutes. Of course I have the tools and I would never advise to chip a blade or try to snap it manually. Same with trying to use a scissor. It is hardened steel. Your scissor will suffer.

A ton of wisdom here.  Almost through with the entire thread and have heard the preference for the 1.05 as a daily driver.  If I usually end up grabbing for a CG Level 1, does that point me more towards the 0.95, or should I stick with the 1.05?

At the other end of the spectrum, I own both the 17-4 and Ti2 but they typically leave me feeling irritated. Any wisdom would be loved!

If you like level 1 CG then I would recommend the .95

The 1.05 is almost a dead wringer for level 2

Living on the edge
Received a spanking new 1.35 WR2 the other day and I am in love with this gap.
In keeping with the sombre mood of the times, I ordered the basic brushed finish.
And a WRH7 XL in basic polish.....I like the contrast but it isn't for all.

Brushed basic is the ultimate no muss no fuss finish....I don't detect any lack
of glide whatsoever....this is just a rock steady workhorse.

It's taken upwards of a year of trial and error to come to the realisation that
1.35 is the lowest acceptable gap for my face...my everyday gap.
While the 1.55 takes over for multiple days' growth.

The 1.35 has just the right amount of blade feel...audio feedback of a Porsche 911
and just smooth as ever.

This makes my 1.45 gap surplus and I will probably look to offload it when some sanity
has returned to our way of life.

There aren't enough pics in this thread

This was my first shave with the WR2 1.15. It was after a 5 day forced hiatus, so it wasn't a breeze,  but 4 passes gave me a surprisingly smooth and irritation free shave.  Only that first pass was tricky because I'm Not used to skipping so many days.

Since then I've had 3 daily 3 pass shaves that were all smooth and enjoyable.  I'm positively digging this razor.

Hi Tester28

Do you mind sharing some closeup photos of the basic brushed finish?
