Living on the edge

I used new Feather blades in both razors and ran a typical 2.5 pass shave.  A face feel after the first pass indicated the 125 took down slightly more hair. After the second pass, they were virtually identical.  I'd give a slight edge to the 125 in efficiency, not much. The 125 is a bit smoother on the first pass with about the same blade feel as the BB.  Subsequent passes, the BB stayed blade feel true while the 125 blade feel is substantially reduced and gets quite a bit smoother.

I've read that the Jet Black Oxide finish has a smoother glide on the face than, say, the machined version.
I wonder if the machined would lag behind the jet when compared to the 1.25

I found the polished BB had the best glide,
However, after owning all the various finishes at the same time,
I only kept the Original Black Oxide.....but did polish the leading edges to match a polished Bird, I also took the sharp edges off.

Trying to match this type of performance is my personal goal in Wr2 selection...

This mighty Blackbird I could not part with, Beautifull 2 pass & no touch ups. Smile

Good question and one I never pondered, so I picked them up. Standard 7 knurling is grippier but I've honestly never noticed a difference in use. For me, it was strictly aesthetic as I'd not seen one before. I'm sure there are others tho. I liked to try and get DuFour to do something different, make my particular razors a little bit unique. He didn't like it and wouldn't entertain my nonsense for the most part. That particular handle took 3 razors to get. I think he got tired of me asking. I was super fortunate that not only did he finally grant the request, he did it on a Titanium razor, AND he polished it! solid gold right there.

You didn't ask specifically but...I think there are actually 2 kinds of hybrid handles. One based on the standard 3 and one based on the 7XL. Mine are all based one the 7XLs. The 7XL is relatively new so I specifically asked for my hybrids to use that platform. Again, I'm sure there are more but I've not seen any. The difference between the two would be the diameter. If you order 3/7 hybrid, I'm pretty sure you will get a handle based on the standard 3 handle. If you want one that has the proportions of mine...you need to order a "3/7 hybrid based one the 7XL". Not to confuse things more, but any standard handle can be XL'd. The XL's also have a different diameter puck stand. Something to keep in mind if you have standard handles and think you can put them in a standard puck. If you order a stand, he will match it to the handle.

I've not used a machined BB. I think the Jet is slick like the polished SS. I did use a black oxide that had a noticeable suction/drag to it compared to my SS. I actually liked it tho.

I just changed my order from a 1.35 to a 1.55 wr2 thanks to you guys Lol. I hope I'm not making a mistake. Although if it's too much, I'm sure I won't have any problems trading it.
How would you compare the 1.25 to the 1.55 (how much more efficient is it, and how much more blade feel does it have?)

Edit: I'm a daily 2 pass shaver (WTG and ATG), and the 1.25 has been just fine for that purpose, but a closer and smooth shave is always welcome.

I am going to ask if I can get 1.45 on one side and 1.55 on the other of an SB. Wonder if he will do that?

I'm sure. Figure out a cool way to mark the gaps on the bottom of the baseplate. Maybe consider 135 and 155?

I received the invoice today and went with what I had originally planned, the WR2 1.15 SB. Hope I like it.

Is there a wider range of cutting angle on the higher blade gaps compared to the lower end/standard gaps?

Yes. The blade angle of WR2's seems to be linear all the way up to 1.90mm from the experiments and images I took checking blade angles on my 1.15 and another 1.55 WR2. Afterwards the slope of the blade angle start regressing.
