I can't afford those, but I shave with a variety of Wolfman razors. IOW, a bit of luxury for a poor man. That's why I don't even entertain the cheap clones.

As for moderation of Wolfman BST threads ...

I was a moderator on Straight Razor Place for years. JimmyHAD was my screen name.

If I banned you it was you who caused it. That said ... an alternative to blocking all comments on Wolfman threads ;

My solution to trolling on any BST thread would be immediately deleting the offending post, a 2 week ban immediately applied to the offender.

For 2nd time offenders a 30 day ban, and for the 3rd time ... three strikes and a permanent ban.

What people who haven't been mods don't get is the time involved in the most minor infraction.

Someone reports a post and all of the mods get the report. You check out the post and probably PM the offending party. Wait for a reply. In the meanwhile you may, or may not have removed the post, but at the very least these things can take a half hour to an hour of your time.

Mods are here for the same reason we all are, to enjoy the forum. It is annoying to have to be the cop and deal with this stuff.

Due to a change in preferences I gave up straight razor shaving for the most part, and due to political intrigues I left SRP.

I now enjoy the forums I do participate in for the most part and let others be the bad guy ... or the good guy, depending on your point of view.

Hats off to the mods for the thankless job they do of keeping the forum cleaned up !
But are all comments related to pricing what you would call "trolling"? I full agree that mods shouldn't have to take time policing and cleaning up threads, but at the same time I don't think that any comment related to pricing is automatically a trolling post.

No, 'all' comments on pricing are not. It is as Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart replied when asked to define pornography ... "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it." Same with troll posts.  Smile

Snarky, unconstructive comments about pricing that criticize the seller and amount to ‘I think that’s way too high’ are ungentlemanly and unneeded. Constructive comments about price can always be sent as PM too.

I had a 1974 VW Beetle that saw me through much of college, finally selling it around 1988 or so. I was on my third re-build of the engine, they lasted 80-100k miles before they started losing compression. I used to carry a complete distributor plate with points and condensor, ready to go. If the points welded closed or the condensor gave up, it was easier at night/bad conditions just to swap the whole plate out then re-build the one with the bad components. It was the only car that I’ve ever had that could snow inside the car, and I frequently had to scrape the inside of the windshield as well as the outside in winter.

Posting Freak
When members self-police things work the best.  If there's a problem, report it using the report function.  I get on the forum regularly as do the other Mods, however, we can't reasonably be expected to read every post.  If you see a problem, report it.  Its as simple as that, then it will be reviewed and determined if its offside and what ought to follow from that.  Mostly its clear but sometimes not and the Mods will discuss.  The process works well.

I'm not sure discussion around pricing of any shaving stuff is all that productive and I'd rather see discussion around the qualities and technical merits of various products .  Pros and cons, and tips for optimum use are always welcome to those of us who might b e considering making purchases.

I agree 100%. So instead of prohibiting any comments on Wolfman razors in the BST prohibit any comments ... pro or con ... ANY ... on pricing. Enforce it, once an infraction is reported by deleting the post and giving the offender a one week timeout. Instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater in effect. My 2 bits.   Angel

Any form of censorship is a slippery slope.

Quote:"Submitting to censorship is to enter the seductive world of 'The Giver': the world where there are no bad words and no bad deeds. But it is also the world where choice has been taken away and reality distorted. And that is the most dangerous world of all."

It's nice to treat yourself and make the most out of your passion. I do want to own a dogwood andromeda with a Dec knot someday! Sounds like a great den you got there.
I’ve got a RR SLOC that was $6. It outperforms 250-450$ razors.  I want to purchase the PAA equivalent to check out the differences however I don’t think the PAA will best the RR SLOC.  The Copper Ascension on the other hand....

Censorship applies to discussions .
BST ads are not and should not be considered
as any form of discussion.
The seller is setting terms and prices.
Either one agrees and proceeds to transaction,
or does not agree and moves forward.
Any comments done ,especially about
seller’s set price ,are nothing less than
ill-intended.
As simple as that.

Totally agree. Maybe the folks making the unsavoury pricing comments never purchased or sold a home? You dont’t see people at an open house complaining the home is not worth it’s asking price. Market fluctuations occur, especially on the higher end. Supply and demand is always a factor.  I want to post a “Want to Buy“ for $200 purchasing someone’s place in line for their Wolfman Razor order.  People will spend with whatever is in their budget and some folks aren’t on a budget therefore want the product now.  For some people trolling is their entertainment as they have zero life.  It’s easy to sit at home in front of a computer screen and dish out insults but not so much when the person is standing in front of you. Life must be boring over at the used soap forum.

Come to think more about it ...
Applying special rules only for certain goods or brandnames on the BST section is kinda of discriminating .

When someone posts an ad on the BST section, is not actually wanting our opinion
about the set prices ,quality or state of goods offered ,set terms , etc .
The only purpose is to sell ,trade or buy .
A BST thread is not a topic for further discussion .
Of course, everybody is entitled to have an opinion ,
but not every case is entitled for opinions to be thrown on the table .

If I would create a hypothetical thread going like  : " Is $1000  a high price to sell my x razor ? "
Then,of course ,everyone's opinion is welcome and should be accepted ,as long is not insulting .
That's a discussion .
If an opinion was to be ruled out of this ,that would have been censorship .
Truly a slippery slope ,then.

But on BST section ,things are very different and very straightforward :
" I'm selling  this razor for $1000 ,because it's shiny enough  and reflects the light in a magical way  "
I'm not asking for any opinions or comments.
I'm not asking for compliments,even .
All I want is for a person to be found ,that has the $1000 and shares with me the same affection for magical  light reflection,
thus willing to buy the damn razor  .
Simple and straightforward enough,me thinks .

Still , if someone can not hold self from expressing  thoughts and/ or feelings ,there is this thing called "private messages " .

And since right now there's a discussion going on ,open to any opinions expressed ,here's mine :
ALL the BST threads ( ads ) should be locked for further commenting ,
except from the creator and the forum's staff ,of course .
