Don’t forget that mods have lives too, and shouldn’t have to work nights, weekends, and holidays on ‘Troll patrol’ when there’s ‘troll bait’ up on the BST.

Ah the eternal question to which there is no answer - used VW or new turbo Porsche? Ginger or Maryanne? Both do (mostly) the same thing, but if you’ve ever been a Harley rider you know that chrome and paint sell. People like, and are willing to pay for good lookin’ stuff! That’s OK. As far as razors go, there are a wide range of folks on shaving forums. If all you want to do is scrape the whiskers off really well, a decent DE or straight razor with a stick of Arko will do that as well as anything. It’s what most of our fathers did. If shaving is a hobby, people want to indulge and experiment a little.

It takes all kinds to make a world, enjoy the variety.

Steve56 Still don't know how to quote sorry lol. I was just following up what the other dude was saying im not fully serious just having fun. I'm all for people making their own choices and buying whatever they'd like with their hard earned money. Especially if you're an enthusiast. im sure the wolfman is an incredible razor and paying for the high level of craftsmanship, quality and labor. Personally my high end maximum is probably $200 but I can definitely understand why someone would want top of the line.

Hey, there’s a ‘quote’ button in the lower right corner. When you click on that, you will be able to click another button to insert the quotes into your reply. That said, if you’re on a mobile device, you may have to use the browser’s ‘request desktop site’ feature to see it. IDK, but it’s happened to me before.

I’ve been in SR for a long time. The razors that hold their value over hundreds of years are razors that were made for well to do men. Cased gentlemen’s pairs, 7-day sets in ivory or tortoise, you get the idea. These traits don’t mean a better shave though. I’m not seeing that luxury in most of DE history except with ‘Wolfman’.

IMO, what DE needs is MORE Wolfman, not less.

Excellent point. To me, DuFour is in a class by himself. He's got the two best shaving heads on the market...and he does it all by himself. Hes got the best mirror polish in the business to kick it up a couple notches above the competition. There are a couple of others that come close to delivering the "one man show" goods. Wolfman is a model that has yet to be replicated, imo. Until that happens, I think his razors will continue to appreciate. Even if it gets replicated, there is nothing like the original.

I drive a 2006 Ford Focus ZX4 auto trans, and a 2005 ZX3 manual trans (I have both) If I could afford it I'd drive a Caddy, a Mercedes, or ... the upcoming limited edition Shelby Cobra .

I can't afford those, but I shave with a variety of Wolfman razors. IOW, a bit of luxury for a poor man. That's why I don't even entertain the cheap clones.

As for moderation of Wolfman BST threads ...

I was a moderator on Straight Razor Place for years. JimmyHAD was my screen name.

If I banned you it was you who caused it. That said ... an alternative to blocking all comments on Wolfman threads ;

My solution to trolling on any BST thread would be immediately deleting the offending post, a 2 week ban immediately applied to the offender.

For 2nd time offenders a 30 day ban, and for the 3rd time ... three strikes and a permanent ban.

What people who haven't been mods don't get is the time involved in the most minor infraction.

Someone reports a post and all of the mods get the report. You check out the post and probably PM the offending party. Wait for a reply. In the meanwhile you may, or may not have removed the post, but at the very least these things can take a half hour to an hour of your time.

Mods are here for the same reason we all are, to enjoy the forum. It is annoying to have to be the cop and deal with this stuff.

Due to a change in preferences I gave up straight razor shaving for the most part, and due to political intrigues I left SRP.

I now enjoy the forums I do participate in for the most part and let others be the bad guy ... or the good guy, depending on your point of view.

Hats off to the mods for the thankless job they do of keeping the forum cleaned up !

Agreed. Far too much leeway for obviously trollish behaviour, in this instance. Especially after a dupe of the "offending" thread by the "offended". Then, the troll gets authorship of the discussion. Top it off with a restriction of all future Wolfman threads. It's sad someone gets their panties in a wad over a piece of equipment I bought with my own money after spending many of my own hours tracking down said equipment. If I didn't ask you for a loan to buy it, you should have zero concern for how I dispose of it. Especially if I broke no rules in the process. Just my opinion.

If giving you a loan so that you could buy a razor meant that I could then dictate what you do with it, I'm happy to lend you some money, James Smile

Ha! Why do I have a feeling I'd be shaving anything other than my face...or using it as a suppository?
