I read James' posts on his website as it was unfolding. Its possible that by "software error" he's actually referring to the use of bots that allow software to do what humans can't and rather than offend people by saying he thinks they're using bots and won't reward that because its not fair he just defaulted to a lottery. I'm just speculating here but there's no reason why the scourge that are bots and their users aren't present in the wet shaving space. They've already ruined just about every other high interest consumer space haven't they? It really is unfortunate because whether you're Wolfman or Nike you have no control over the internet and the use of bots and it completely ruins the experience for the real customers/enthusiasts out there.

I think James was doing his best to be fair and as he said from the start, he is open to feedback for improving what is obviously an evolving process. Lets cut him some slack.

I think I'd be more willing to cut him some slack if I'd gotten an email from him explaining how I really wasn't on the waiting list. About 280 people think they're on the list and aren't. Unless they read the forum boards/check his update page, there's going to be some disappointed people out there for some time expecting to be able to order a razor who aren't. He did, however, take the time to quickly notify the 40 lucky lottery winners. What he says in the email (if he sends one) tells me how much slack to cut. Or not.

Yeah, I had no idea either until a few years ago when I was absolutely unable to ever actually buy a limited release item - in my case they were nike retro jordan sneakers.  Bots are evil and so are the people that use them . Unfortunately it creates an arms race situation.  If you want to score the item you have to use one.  I just stopped being interested in that item.  Here's a definition from wiki

An Internet bot, also known as web robot, WWW robot or simply bot, is a software application that runs automated tasks (scripts) over the Internet. Typically, bots perform tasks that are both simple and structurally repetitive, at a much higher rate than would be possible for a human alone.

Yeah GoHabs , a human can't beat a bot, you just can't. They really do screw up everything, I have no problem losing out in a fair competition but with bots its like your fifth grade kid running the 100m in their school track meet and having Usain Bolt in lane 1.

I clicked to join just as the list went live and ended up at 240, then got got passed over for the second go-round. So it's not like the razor I wanted was pulled from my hands. But I wish I had known about the 40 limit before this all happened. Did he post that info beforehand because I sure don't recall reading about it anywhere. I might have just passed altogether having been through these things before (like everyone else) and knowing about the great interest and bots and Hail Mary's.

Honestly, I'm not convinced about note here. Are there that many computer programmer-wet shavers out there? How many of us on this forum know how to write these kinds of programs? I think it is equally conceivable that 100 wet shavers were hitting the refresh button at the same time and then it is a matter of luck, internet connection, dexterity, etc who gets on the list. But maybe I'm just an optimist (and for the record, i was not on the top 40, and did not win a lotto spot)

I hate to be that guy, but life is bigger than razors. If people get all worked up about a razor, I don't want to be around when something really serious happens.

Yeah, and I do own a Wolfman, but I waited like everyone else and without the side of whining. Just saying, is not the end of the world. Watch some news and tell me if your life is that screwed up in comparison, then, maybe, you'll get my empathy.

You can buy them, you can find them as free ware/ share ware or whatever. If you really want one you don't have to have the technical savvy to write your own code.
