Wolfman Auction

Last year someone on DFS put up a brass, or bronze .61 SB WR1 with a Darwin handle for about $750 USD if I remember correctly. 

I would have wanted it had it been a 0.74 or better, and was even tempted with the 0.61, but I don't particularly want to spend more $$ on yet another high dollar razor.

As far as the guy who was the 'lucky' winner getting his money out of it should he decide to sell it ... maybe, maybe not. 

I remember what SS BBS-1s were going for on the bay after John Brown announced the list was defunct and James wasn't making any more. 

Big $ to begin with, but it tapered off after a few months. Not that a SS BBS-1 still won't bring a big buck, just not what it was when they were 'hot.'

I had one of three BBS 1 prototypes but sold it years ago. It would be probably be worth a couple of grand now. I remember when James was selling complete razors for usd 175. Those were the days. Now James is making a mint of money with his auctions which cost him practically nothing to run. If he sold razors on eBay he would have to pay a 15% premium.

Well ... I used to ask myself why the guy (James) didn't get a message from what his razors were bringing on ebay years ago. He finally wised up. I wonder who whispered in his ear ? Anyway ... glad I have what I've got. I do have one more possible acquisition in mind, and that in SS. I may take advantage of the postponed order and get it. Like I need another Wolfman

We had a email conversation some years ago. He thought it was terrible what people were charging on eBay. Surprise he is doing it himself with far greater profits since he makes them and not a reseller. A hipocrete.

Wolfman has a cult-like following, especially in some Arabic and Asian locales. As long as people have expendable income then brands like Wolfman, Chanel, Hermes, Rolex, ect will attract high-dollar clientele. I have ZERO issue with him providing a boutique experience for certain clientele so long as "affordable" products remain for the rest of us average Joes.

He could limit supply, go the high-end, one-off couture route and be extremely profitable. I hope he takes steps such as outsourcing finishing for the basic options and make his dollars with volume.

Why the sour grapes?  Apart from him being Canadian, he's living the American dream.  The guy is a machinist who works with his hands and he built a successful business from nothing.  He didn't buy an existing business he just stuck out his neck and let it all hang out.  No doubt that timing was important. As was the growth of online shaving forums and e-commerce that allow a business to have global scope from a small town in north central Alberta , Canada.  An early contract with LA Shaving Co. helped a lot.  Easy peasy right?  I bet if you sat down with James and talked things over you'd learn that it wasn't as easy as people seem to think.  But he was smart, he didn't grow too fast in response to the success and he doesn't actually build a razor until its sold.  In the early days he didn't accept money until the razor was ready to ship, I don't know if he still works that way but its still low risk because theres not any unsold razors lying around his shop as far as I understand.  I think he also has been an inspiration to other artisan craftsmen as an example of what's possible when you focus on excellence.  I wish him all the best and success in everything he does.

I totally agree with you. Also most importantly he makes some of the best razors available today.

No - maybe his views have evolved or changed. No problem there. He can't control what folks are bidding...

Not a big fan of the colour combo or aluminium to be honest, will stick to my SS

Absolutely no interest in a Guerilla in any head or color. Next!

I like this one and regret selling my OC Guerrilla even though it was somewhat milder than all of my other Wolfmans but I don’t think I am interested in an aluminum version.
