Thanks, and WHOA!  You must have the tip top of the top tier JNATS!  Beautiful!

Yes...someone asked me today if I was done...I thought about it, and said maybe one or two more.  A jade hone, and perhaps an Escher...maybe one JNAT finisher.

However, right now I am just having fun blowing my mind mastering these jaspers.

Lol I remember when I got my first hone. I said 5 max. I have about 10 arks, 8 Coticules, just got 4 les lats last month, and jnats are my favorite and my bank account reflects it. Im actually in the process of getting rid of some but each time I back out. Stones have different personalities that is what makes them so appealing as well as the visual display.

I like this razor quite a bit, but it came to me with some micro-bevel issues, and I have never been fully happy with the edges I have been able to put on it.  I think I might have it dialed in now.  Shave test this weekend!

I honed this Otto Deutsch today.  Using the following steps:

1. Kill Edge on glass bottle.

2. Set bevel on Chosera 1k...pass thumbnail test...do five light laps...pass grape/cherry tomato test...do five laps.

3. Dress cutting side of jasper with DMT 325, rinse off.  Then use DMT 325 to slurry Nakayama Asagi Kan Stone...spray slurry onto Jasper.

4.  Rinse slurry off.

5.  Use DMT 325 to slurry cutting side, and proceed to hone on Jasper slurry.

6.  Flip jasper over to finishing side, and use large Oozuku Toma Nagura to dress stone, and hone on the slurry created.

7.  Rinse stone off.

8.  Ten very light laps under slow/light stream of running water.

The resultant edge and bevel near the edge look pristine under the Nikon 10x loupe, and it passed the lightest of Hanging Hair Tests all along the cutting edge.  I am looking forward to the shave test on Saturday or Sunday...we’ll see how it goes.

A little update!  The Otto Deutsch took an amazing edge, and delivered a sublime shave!  I killed the edge on the 1st Gen Filarmonica Especial that has had a rough life, but is a superb shaver, and ran it through the above technique.  I think that will tell me what I have with the Jasper + JNAT slurry technique!

Another very interesting thing to note, is that the Oozuku Tomo Nagura slurrying not only put down a sweet slurry as my pre-finishing step in the process, but it also made the finishing side HIGHLY burnished.  I had previously used 800 grit SiC powder in the final step of the lapping process in order to dress the finishing side, but the burnish that the Tomo Nagura leaves is more fine and reflective!

I will report back after tomorrow’s shave.

Awesome Matt! I’m going to try this method with my Tomo Nagura. It seems to take a tad bit to get slurry on the Jasper since it is so hard. You find that an issue to?

No issue whatsoever!

Gents,

Used the big jasper with its own and with the JNAT slurries, and finally finished under running water.

This particular razor is a pre-1890 Frederick Reynolds, it has a slight smile, and I needed to do a light rolling x stroke.

I was watching this razor on eBay, but forgot to bid.  The chap that purchased it off of eBay eventually listed it for sale on one of the forums, and that is how it came into my possession.  It arrived with some edge geometry issues, and a weird microbevel.  This caused me to spend a little more time on the Chosera 1k, but I think everything turned out alright.  The bevel near the edge, and the actual edge look fantastic to the naked eye, and pristine under the 10x loupe.  It also passed the hanging hair test along the edge.

I was going to wait to shave again until my Sub Cero arrives, but I don’t know if I can wait...I want to see how I did with this edge!
