Hey each to his own. What’s pretentious to me might not be to others. Subjectivity is in the eyes of the reader. Hope you have a great week

Good point, and thank you.

In the marketplace, advertising needs to consider the impact of the message upon ALL potential buyers, not just a small subset. In this instance Amigos was designed for a small group of shavers who might have understood and even appreciated the inside joke. However the product and its tasteless description were presented in this manner to a far larger group of potential buyers.

Some recent marketing campaigns by Bud Light and Target were aimed to please a small subset of their potential customers. Failure to anticipate the reaction of their larger customer base led to huge financial losses for their respective companies and a significant diminishing of the brand images these companies spent decades building.

At least Bud Light and Target recognized the error of their ways are are attempting to repair their images. Rather than apologizing for a  joke considered to be in very poor taste by many potential customers, LothurLtd is denying doing anything wrong. Furthermore, he is attacking a fellow artisan whose interest is in protecting a well-respected vendor's reputation from being tarnished by the actions of a single supplier.

This responses to this situation has enhanced my opinions of Ethos Grooming and of The Razor Company as they responded appropriately and quickly. However, I have lost all respect for Lothur Grooming and their products and will never purchase them for my own use nor recommend them to others.

Aren’t you just being as reactionary as the people who boycotted budlite and target?
I’m not apologising for anything, I stick by the joke plus many others in others forums who find this forums stance perplexing at a minimum.
Also pointing out the obvious conflict of interest isn’t attacking ethos it’s literally just calling a spade a spade.
Also me and Jason are cool, no issues, no nothing. In fact we have a restock of amigos coming soon. As it sold out many people couldn’t get any.

While I normally really like TRC, IMHO they blew it with this one.
As usual, you are spot on ! I watched the video and read the description on line. I'm a big fan of TRC. However, very disappointed with this unprofessional presentation. Poor taste imo.

Great to see you back my friend Smile Smile

After doing the surgery tour last year, we are finally back in our RV and on our way to the Canadian Maritimes. I hope all is well with you, my friend. I will try and include some pictures as we go further North.

It was totally an inside joke and if you know the 3 guys the soap was created for the joke is very apt and fitting because their show is full of witty banter and humour.

As another soap maker to another soap maker I almost never comment on another soap makers product or anything about them unless it’s a soap maker I know very well and call a friend an I know quite a few soap makers I call friends. My main reason for getting involved at all was to try and protect Jason’s and TRC as he is my friend and not just one of my vendors..at the time of posting I had no knowledge that you and some other people had an inside joke going. Heck I have a lot of those going on with a lot of people but that’s were it stays between us. I made a comment about the Joke not connecting or conveying the scent profile and I made it known it wasn’t coming from a business standpoint but from an unbiased shaving hobbyist, which I’ve been for over 22 years. I know how to separate my business options from my personal opinions and I’ll be clear it wasn’t meant to bash you or put down your products. I’d never do that publicly to another artisan.

Again my intention was to protect a friend, let him know what was going on in this thread before it went further south which was the way it was going and hurt his reputation which he’s worked so hard to build.

Looking back maybe I should have kept my opinion on the scent to joke connection to myself so my apologies if I offended you. It was not my intention to do so.

Regards and enjoy your weekend.

No offence but the only people who cared was a tiny tiny minority of people on this forum.
Everyone at the meet and all the people who bought it saw no such issue.
So I can’t see where your concern for a friend even comes into it. In a wider context no one, including btw Jason’s in person customers cared and actually found it funny. On top of that other brands I won’t mention names have reached out since this and have said the way I market products has made them feel braver because it has allowed them to be more authentic. So from where I’m sitting it’s seems like the chorus of a few has been taken more seriously that a silent majority. I think it’s unjust.

My original opinion of Lothur when it was gaining traction in the marketplace and from listening to Lother interviews: a quality soap developed by a man with a serious commitment to promote mens' mental health and wellbeing. I have not purchased Lother at retail, but was glad to purchase two tubs through BST purchases. Nice stuff, and good feelings for Lothur's product and goodwill for mens' health.

When I saw the listing including the "inside joke," I was astounded that a newly released product would intentionally invoke the scent of feces and flies at the point of decision. That is all, no more, no less. I do not mean to make a mountain out of a molehill, nor do I think anything like a boycott is called for. My feelings are not hurt, and I tell jokes that are far more offensive than the one being discussed.

If you only intend to sell to a small insular group, that is totally cool. If I have to be an "insider" with special knowledge, I guess I will consider myself a non-customer with plenty of high quality choices.
