Why so many guys are turned off by straight razors

I have ruined razors by simply drying/wiping and not oiling before. So anyone new, please figure out whether your living situation permits not oiling before making a decision.

Ive never had an issue. Maybe once every month or two i will pop a bit of oil on it.

But i don’t do it regularly.

Maybe if i bought a $1000 dollar razor id care for it a bit more.

Ive been looking at Max Sprecher's work and it got me seriously interested in using a straight.
I don't mind the time as I'll probably keep it for weekends or holidays.
What gives me a bit of pause is all the extra equipment that goes with it.
My location doesn't allow me to just send a razor off to an artisan to be re-honed every few months.
So I'll have to do the maintenance myself....I don't mind the elbow grease required either but I get
pretty confused with all the paraphernalia I'll have to order. Any thoughts on what the bare minimum
might be to keep an edge going.

it could be quite therapeutic to DIY. Just have to figure out what to get without
getting too deep.

I think it's the continual maintenance, learning curve and perhaps maybe it needing more focus during a shave than a DE or SE razor.

while I think they're great to look at, I have no desire to use a straight razor, personally.

I can pull off a 2 pass straight razor shave in a minute or 3 more than a de shave. Stroping takes maybe 1 minute. Drying takes seconds. I use mine at least 2x a week so oiling isn’t needed.

Best shaves of my life all the time - no but they’re getting there and my skin has never been happier on my sensitive spots. I’m sold.

Because it’s hard and not practical…especially if you’re bald and got three feet of beard.

I will probably start doing a shave mid week as well as it doesn’t take me long either.

I can be done in 15min tops! 2 pass

I think I would learn a lot from your experience as you seem to have taken it up fairly recently...and if I remember your wolfman posts,
you're more into slightly milder gaps like 1.05 for daily use.

The one thing I want to stay away from is approaching this like a beginner....starting with a safer round point, then moving up the chain
to more challenging points and grinds....thats just a recipe for buying more and more straights. I want to jump in at the deep end and if
necessary, I'll pay the price in blood if Im not careful).

Would you say you're more of a 1/2 hollow or full hollow kinda shaver? And what sort of blade point did you feel most comfortable with?

I was thinking of trying a 7/8 width but these point designs have me a bit confused.
