I’m in the exact same boat. An approximately 36-hour interval would probably be most optimal, but so far I just haven’t been able to manage such a schedule. (A 48-hour interval gives great shaves, but the second day then becomes shaggy-look day, and I have so many fun shaving items to use that often I just don’t want to wait that long.)

My main razors don’t seem to discern much between different lengths of beard. Where I feel the difference is the skin.

I think most people will say they get a better shave with a few days growth on. I know I do. That being said I do not think the razor is the reason. With good technique a GEM contour will do the job a OC Micro Matic will. A razor with less blade gap might clog easier with a longer beard and require more rinsing, but it will do the job. It has something to do with the short days growth being harder to cut more bristlely (if that is a word).
