Who Just Bought the new Razorock MJ-90?

I agree that the finish on the head and the handle are good — it’s a nice-looking razor for sure. I also like the weight of the combination, as it is pleasantly light, yet not as feather-light as an all-aluminum razor would be.

However, the MJ-90 is so mild that I found it to be somewhat inefficient.

Same experience with mine, I even changed the blade from a vintage Gillette Platinum to a Feather mid-shave and didn't make difference at all.

Ditto for me on my first shave with it this morning and three passes with a new Astra. Nice-looking, yes; mild, yes; efficient, no. I got an okay shave; somewhere between SAS and DFS, I'd say.

It would be a good first razor for someone new to safety razors, I think, but it didn't blow me away with its performance.

I have no interest in playing The IB Game of Acquisition but I did get the Halo handle secondhand recently; it's quite nice for the $30 cost of entry, considering it's Ti.

My second shave with the MJ90 was much better than the first, but I was very deliberate, took my time, and did four passes instead of my usual three. I got a pretty DFS. I don't think BBS is possible unless you're a teenager with peach fuzz. Seriously, I think you'd have to intentionally try to cut yourself with this razor. It's that mild and smooth, but it comes at the expense of efficiency, especially if you're in a hurry. Still, I'd call it a keeper, and a good first DE for a teen, a newbie, a lovely lady with smooth, silky legs . . .

My experience with the MJ90 is using a Derby Premium (black label). Super comfortable; reminds me of the Feather AS-D2 a bit, where a sharp blade and just the right angle can deliver a great shave, but if you're lacking in those areas, it might limit the efficiency. I have a rough, oddly growing beard and generally use fairly aggressive razors and adjustables on a high setting; still I was able to get a 3-pass DFS+ the first time and then a BBS the next time out. I really like it; I agree with others that it might be on the mild side, but it may be simply a matter of finding that optimal angle.

I used it for the first time today and have to say I agree 100% with most reviews here. It feels milder and less efficient than the EJ/Muhle 89, with noticeable less blade feel. I needed to make more strokes to get BBS-/DFS but did so in total comfort. Contrast this to my Wolfman Standard Gap or even my Muhle 89 where a bit of carelessness can result in some superficial redness and mild irritation, especially going ATG on my neck.

I will echo those who said this is a great razor for beginners and a great ATG pass razor. I may use it as part of a two razor/two pass shave, using a more efficient shaver for the WTG pass. I was worried I'd want to let this one go; but for now I'm going to try a few more shaves and see how it goes.

I used the RR MJ-90 today for the first time and was pleased with the results. I have razors that are more aggressive in the rotation and I have owned some razors that were considerably more aggressive. A few years ago I stated that one of my goals on this wet shaving journey was to have the closest shave possible with the mildest razor setup possible. While I have modified that goal, I still want to have a close shave without irritation.

The quality of the MJ-90 razor is quite impressive given the cost and has been consistent with many RR products I have tried. The mildness of the razor did not prevent it from allowing me to receive a DFS with a day and half of beard growth. I paired the razor with a Super Iridium blade and generous lather of RL Safari soap, tallow version. I am very pleased with the closeness of the shave I achieved with a, WTG, XTG, and ATG pass shave. I will keep the razor as part of the rotation and will probably use it more often during the next two weeks to see how subsequent shaves compare to the maiden voyage of the MJ-90.

I may get rid of my MJ-90, but I'm keeping the handle if I do. It's a good razor, but after three shaves with it, I think it's just too mild and inefficient for me.
