I tried this before and liked it too.

The smoke in there gives it a unique flavor. Have never tasted anything like that.

After watching some YouTube BiB reviews praising how good this bourbon is. I picked up a bottle.

Not sure if I’d gotten a bad bottle or what. But it’s not to my liking so far after trying a 2 fingers pour with a splash of water.

I saw one comment that they like a 3 finger pour with 2 cubes of ice. So I’ll give that a try next.

But I think I’ll most likely be using this as a mixer and for cooking.

Wish I would have purchased a back up bottle of Bulliet instead for a couple $’s more.

The story behind this one is sad because it used to be one do the best secret bargains in bourbon. The plastic cap versions are the older bottles from when Brown Forman owned them but they sold the brand to Sazerac (they own Buffalo Trace) and there is definitely a difference. I still have a few bottles left if the old stuff and I’ll be sad when it’s gone! As a replacement for a couple more dollars, Cooper’s Craft 100 proof is made by Brown Forman, around $30, and is fantastic. Cheers!

What did the old Brown Forman taste like,

The YouTube video I watched said they didn’t think it had changed very much and in their opinion, it was still better than most bonded bourbon’s out there?

Maybe I’ve gotten a taste for mid grade bourbons and can’t drink these value bourbons anymore? But some reviewers claim that this stuff is better than some bourbons that cost twice as much?

But the way it tasted today. I just can’t justify having this even taking up room in my liquor cabinet.

There’s some very strong disagreement on how much it’s changed and there are some that claim it’s exactly the same. I haven’t tried the new bottles but Breaking Bourbon said that the flavor profile is “brighter and more fruit forward”, which I read as younger. They said it’s not better or worse, just different. But if your palate is more inclined to a certain profile, it’s gonna be worse for some people.

The old bottles aren’t super complex but had a surprisingly dark profile for a BiB bourbon at the price point and a medium-long finish. It really did the Kentucky bourbon profile extremely well. I think your palate is good and you’re also noticing the youthfulness in the new bottles.

These days, I tend to stick to barrel proof stuff but for my palate, Wild Turkey 101, Old Grandad 114, Old Forester 100 Bourbon, and Old Forester 100 Rye, are all pretty solid.
