When the peaty smoke beckons, I reach for a dram of my Islay peats Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin or the Compass Box Peat Monster. When the smoke desires subside, I stay on Islay with a Bunnahabhain or Classic Laddie from Bruichladdich.

Ultimately, though, the best whiskey/whisky is the one you enjoy, especially with a good conversation with one or more even better companions...

My current favorites are Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and High West Double Rye.

I’m curious to know what you all have been reaching for when it comes to whiskey?

Woodmans, a local grocery chain, recently had High West for $19. The Prairie Bourbon was okay, but I really enjoyed the Double Rye. Metro Market, another local recently bought by Kroger’s, had an Elijah Craig “Roundy’s Select Barrel Small Batch” for cheap (Roundys is the former corporate owner). It was fantastic! I went back for more but I was too late Sad  I’m a fan of Larceny and 4 Roses Small Batch too.
