I am glad to hear from those that have held the wood in their hand verify that it is close, if not the actual true scent of sandalwood.I'm quite familiar with the scent of the Mysore wood carvings. Indeed, Proraso Red is close; I like it, but to be honest, the scent is dull/muddy, in comparison to the real deal.

So when I found it at a international store, of course I bought it. Horrible. Yuk. Smelled to high heaven...It was the most chemically contrived detergent scent, worse than lysol, that I have ever smelled in a soap.I don't know which one you've tested, but I've smelled the government's ubiquitous "Mysore Sandal Soap," and it smelled nothing like Sandalwood - the soap is loaded with other fragrances which are horrid.
On the other hand, their "Mysore Sandalwood Millennium" soap, according to someone I trust, is spot-on sandalwood.
