What Wolfman WR1 Blade Gap Should I Consider Compared to a WR2 1.25?

If the Blackbird has a 'tad' more blade feel than you prefer I'd say the 0.74 would probably be your best bet. 

One of these days I may spring for an 0.80, but I haven't yet. Otherwise I'd be able to speak to the difference between the 74 & the 80. 

That said, I've considered selling my 0.86 & 0.94 but never my 0.74. That'll be an estate item after I'm gone. 

To my personal face/neck the 0.86 has significantly more blade feel than a Blackbird ... as always ... YMMV.

I own a WR2 1.25 SB and a WR1 .80 SB

I can confirm they match up evenly.

.80 WR1, but be careful, you may never reach for your WR2 1.25 again! 

From my personal experience having the Wr2 1.25 Sb,  and having tried the .86Oc and currently have .80 Dc.

.80 Dc to me has similar blade feel like the 1.25 while being a little less efficient, results are BBS with Both, comfort level about the same.

.86Oc had significant blade feel, much more.., comparable to my 1.45 Sb, or Blackbird Sb. The .86 had about the same efficiency as 1.25, but less than Blackbird or 1.45 Sb.

So the question is, do you prefer less blade feel (like 1.25) then the choice would be .80 imo
On the other hand, if you prefer the efficiency of the 1.25 then the choice would be .86 imo

Just speaking from personal experience, and as always YMMV. I know how it feels like, big decision to make, but like you -I wanted Wr1 that simulated Wr2 1.25 and I believe the .80 just fits me and I’m really happy I went for Dual Comb. The Dual Comb is always the go to for the win, you get 2 razors in 1 head. My feelings have remained consistent trying many different gaps DuFour offers. I’m NOT keen on different gaps for my razor heads either.  If I’m trying an .86 gap I order that gap on both sides of the dc.  I’ve always felt the OC side is my workhorse and my SB side is my detailer.

Appreciate the shout out CS! It’s all about saving some Benjamin’s yet getting the most enjoyment out of that purchase!

If I had to do WR1 all over again, I would start at .80 DC on a WRH1 100mm with a WRA1 stand in basic polish. Next build I would go .54 DC in satin upgrade, handle choice Darwin in satin finish on a WRA2 satin stand. The reason for the upgrade on the .54 is because I know the .54 will have its place here forever.  It’s the most versatile of the WR1 gap offerings imho.  Said it before and I’ll say it again, the .61 and .67 are worthless to me.  Harsh, not ultra smooth like a .54 or .80.  That .80 gap is a winner and I’m super fair shaving 2x a week.  

I recently scored a .74 dc in a different metal than what’s offered currently.  Right now I’m in the learning curve phase with it so I don’t want to say too much only to eat my words later.  I’ve already had a .74, it wasn’t for me, HOWEVER, with this one, I’m forced to revisit the .74 and begin a relationship with it somehow.

As always…….  .80 WR1 DC for the win

OP, I found the Blackbird Jet Black SS head responded well to a Titanium handle. It reduced the aggressiveness by a bit by changing the balance point. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't personally experienced it. Up to this point I thought the handle was solely about comfort in the hand, not on the face.

To your original question. I have a WR2 1.25 SB Stainless, and a WR1 .74 SB Stainless. I think the WR1 is smoother, more nimble, and at least as efficient.

For some time now I've been experimenting with various handles with Wolfman, Charcoal Goods, among others. No question the handle/head combination affects the characteristics of the razor and the feel of the shave. + 1 on the 0.74, it is a great gap.

The .74 was my original choice but I decided on the .80. Hopefully I’m still ok….

You should really like the .80... Make sure to let us know your opinion after a few shaves.

The 0.80 is pretty close to the 0.74, definitely a bit more efficient, but with increased blade feel to match it. It's not uncomfortable or even remotely scary or anything, I just slightly prefer the feel of the 0.74 myself.
