What was your first shaving equipment?

My first DE shave was in the Fall of 2013. An Edwin Jagger DE89lbl, TOBS Sandalwood, and Pinaud Clubman.

Now I have 50+ soaps creams, a bunch o brushes and Razors, and my wife just stared blankly at me when I told her how much I spent on my ATT S1 ha.

Started in November of 2011 with a merkur 23c, VDH luxury starter kit, and blade sampler. Fast forward 4 years and and have enough soap/creams for the next 5 years, blades for the next 10 years and a small collection of razors.

My wife bought me the AOS wet shave kit to use with a cartridge about 5 years ago. I used it on special occasions because the "process" was cool to go through when going somewhere special; but, the shaves where no different really. I bought some Castle Forbes Lavendar cream a couple years ago and never learned how to lather it properly.
Two weeks ago, I had enough and ordered an EJDE89, sample blade pack, a Stirling brush, a Shave Revolution brush, 8 soap samples, and a tube of C.O. BIGELOW!
After a hundred hours of YouTube videos, I'm off and running! Eight shaves in and getting better everyday. I'm really anxious to finish this pack of Derby blades and move on to Astras! Could not be happier with this move.

Ah yes, my first traditional wetshave - the loss of my shaveginity!!

1] Merkur 38C rather than the more popular 34C.  I guess even then I thought size mattered.

2] Art of Shaving super badger brush - soft and floppy [you should pardon the expression...]

3] George Trumper's shaving cream - either Almond or Lavender.

4] Proraso aftershave and balm.

Before I finished my first cheek I knew I was hooked. I could not believe that I spent my developing years using Gillette Good News and Trac II disposables and Edge gel.

My first purchase for myself was a Merkur 1904 OC razor, a sampler pack of blades, and Pre de Province shave soap. I was gifted a pure badger brush from AoS.

This is a great thread that hasn't been posted to for a while, so I thought I'd revive it.

My first wet-shaving experiences were way back in the '60s and early '70s, using canned shaving foam and Gillette DE and GEM SE razors from my dad. (No, I don't know what happened to those razors. I dearly wish I still had them.) Being a callow youth, I never mastered the technique and fell prey to Edge gel and Gillette cartridge razors when they came out. I rediscovered traditional shaving in January of 2011. My first setup then was: Edwin Jagger DE87 razor with faux-ivory handle (photo 1); Timor blades; D.R. Harris Almond soap; Edwin Jagger Best Badger brush; and drugstore witch hazel for an aftershave.

I gave away the EJ razor years ago. The Timor blades are great for beginners (very forgiving), but pricey and not sublimely sharp; I quickly graduated to sharper blades. I still have the original puck of D.R. Harris soap from almost six years ago. This is not a reflection on Harris soaps -- they are great -- just a by-product of the dazzling array of soaps and creams that have become available in the last several years. I fully intend to use up the Harris Almond -- eventually. As for the brush, early on I became a boar convert.

My current setup is the Feather Artist Club SS Japanese straight (photo 2); Feather Professional Super blades; a variety of soaps, including Mike's Hungarian Lavender and Peppermint & Rosemary, Stirling's Pumpkin Spice (great autumn soap), Arko, and Monsavon (French drugstore product at an amazingly low price, if you happen to be there);  Omega 10098 and 10049 Professional boar-bristle brushes; witch hazel (of course), and a variety of aftershaves, including Floïd Vigoroso and Suave (my current favorites), Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve and The Veg, Denim Original, and Aqua Velva Ice Blue and Musk). I have an AlumiGoose V2 on order, which takes the same blades as the Feather AC SS, and am looking forward to using it.

I started wet shaving in November 2015 with a "Perfecto" DE razor and a Van der Hagen starter kit that included a boar brush, puck of soap, and a palm bowl.

I currently have 4 de razors, a Slim, an Old Type, a 40s Super Speed, and a Maggards V3/MR22. I am not actively looking to eliminate any of these from my den but if the right trade offer came up, I would consider it. I also have a GEM G-bar se.

I also have 4 straights in my daily rotation and 1 being restored along with 2 being shipped out as PIFs this week.

2 shavettes that see occasional use.

I have 2 boar brushes, 3 very different synthetics, and 1 silvertip badger brush.

My current favorite setup is my Razorock boar brush, Allegheny Instruments 5/8 near wedge, and Crown King scuttle.

I finished that puck of Van der Hagen soap long ago, but VDH soap still has a place in my den among the 15 or so artisan soaps I rotate through, and the 20 or so samples that get used.

Fun idea for a thread. All of my initial wet shaving stuff (brush, cream, razor aftershave and alum) all came from the Art of Shaving in 2008. Sandalwood scented products (still to this day my favorite sandalwood scent), I sprung for their most expensive razor at the time as well, the Merkur Vision, and a large Silvertip badger brush with black acrylic persian jar handle. Good times
