The first razor I bought was a slim. In college I used a straight razor. Then for long periods of time I just mowed my beard with clippers. Never really got into the plastic, which gave me too many ingrown hairs. I have been known to shave with a knife on quite a few occasions, whenever the Dan'l Boone mood strikes. My dad taught me that too.

That shaving with a knife reminds me of the scene in Crocodile Dundee where he does that! Kudos!

That's funny, I thought of the exact same scene!

Understatement of the year!

Thank you, Jeff and that is very kind of you. Shy

Out of everything I first used, my Dreadnaught Spartan DE is still my daily shaver. Occasionally I'll use the Mongoose, but after using a Fatboy, slants, a Merkur adjustable, a Parker, and the MR22 I still have, I will always use my Spartan. My first set was AOS sandalwood which I still have an absolute love for. My first splash was Proraso which I still use as my AS when I go to the gym since it's really effective and doesn't have a pungent/long lasting scent. There aren't many products I've regretted using over the past three years, some were better than other, but I firmly believe I got it right early on which helped propel my love of wet shaving. Even so, I really enjoy reading everyone else's experiences since it paints a similar picture from a different perspective.

In 1955 when I started shaving I used a Tech that my father gave me. The blade was a Gillette Blue, the brush a no-name generic brush, and I used Palmolive cream. Later I ventured into soaps and used Williams and Colgate. Like my father, the after shave was plain witch hazel. In those days everything was simple.

I started out in 1989 taking my mother's razors usually a pink daisy 2 blade disposable. Big Grin I started enjoying wet shaving in January of 2015 with the typical beginner set-up ( merkur 23c, VDH luxury kit, and proraso blue cream ) and got the best shaves of my life! I now have progressed through the ADS AND have settled on a 1912 or 1914 for my daily driver.
