Had my first attempt at a straight razor yesterday. Much too intimidated and only got right cheek before retreating to the DE
Today was better, both sides of my face and a bit of the chin, then back to the DE....

Razor is an Eaton, got sight unseen from Larry at Whipped Dog. A real super guy to do business with. If I don't cut my throat in the next six months or so will probably go for a Ralf Aust 5/8 and restore the Eaton.

Very impressive beard there Bad Dad, what is it your shaving anyhow ? If you're shaving your head with a straight, wow now I really feel like a wuss..

Haha...Thank you. I shave my head every night. I use straights primarily, but also enjoy a variety of DE and SE razors as well. No need to "feel like a wuss". We all started the same way.

Stick with a straight for about 3 months, and you'll start feeling comfortable. Be respectful, not afraid, and it will all come together with practice...

Save the chin and mustache areas until you've mastered everything else. Those areas can be a bit tricker than the wide, flat expanses of the cheeks and neck. There's a good reason why the Van Dyke beard has been popular for a very, very long time. Just take it slow and you'll be fine. 100 shaves from now and you won't give it a second thought.
