As we head into the hot and muggy months down here, I’m turning to my mentholated soaps for a refreshing start to the day. First up is Don José, a fruity blend of bananas and coconut that, surprisingly, smells like apple juice when the brush first meets the soap. As the lather builds, the banana scent takes the lead. The menthol is present but not overpowering, and you’ll start to feel its cooling effect by the second pass. The chill lingers just long enough to make the heat outside feel a little more bearable.

Got a favorite menthol soap? Tell me about it.

Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Eucalyptus Piperita (Joserra) wet peppermint
Shave 3 ・ 115 g

Thanks to everyone who shared their favorite menthol soaps! (And Maggards thanks you, too.) A few more pucks are on the way to join our collection of ice-cold lathers.

Today’s pick, Eucalyptus Piperita, had me tearing up the moment I uncapped it. No extra menthol needed – the natural menthol found in the mint does the job, clearing the head and cooling the skin. The lather is thick and creamy, just the way we like it, and the duck fat adds an extra layer of slickness. With cow tallow, quack fat, and clay this is one of the very best soap bases ever.

After a couple dozen tries, I’m finally getting the hang of the Overlander. I really couldn't get close with it at first, but then something clicked, I found my angle, and boom! the beard disappeared with only one or two passes. I discovered this razor loves a PolSilver blade – the results are always smooth, close, and comfortable.

Friday's with Frank

Rendezvous: an homage to Creed's Spice and Wood [thanks Neroli]. Loved this stuff. Not the new F base, but got a great slick lather and very beautiful scent. FRANK, worthy of being a regular offering IMHO.
