Inspired by Bouki I pulled out the ever-satisfying L’Occitane Cade.  Easy lather. Slick. Not thirsty though.

Royal Fougère (Asylum) English Fern
Shave 36 ・ 39 g

Deep in my heart, I harbor this conviction, probably indefensible, that the only true scent for a shaving soap is fougère. What makes the fougère so appealing is the manner in which it combines notes from all the branches of the olfactory tree into one perfect harmony: bright bergamot, flowery lavender, rose, and geranium, greens galore, moss, spice, sandalwood, and a hint of something like castoreum. Royal Fougère is patterned on Penhaligon’s English Fern, which sadly has been discontinued since 2019. Until it’s resurrected, we’ll have to make do with this soap.

First day of fall shaving weather here in the Bluegrass. I used to think Vetivert was my favorite Ethos flavor. Then I was convinced it was Nuage de Citron. Now I am sure it is Dragonsbeard in the upgraded F base. But wait, there is my beloved Honeysuckle.

I am obviously unable to stay loyal - and for good reason.... So many great pux.  This oud is sweet and has some fruit overtones to me. Black currant perhaps? ..... Reminds of Amouage Jubilation... Creed's Royal Oud is a kissing cousin, but it has a strong cedar core that is not in Frank's potion. I am going to have to devote a day for this every fall and winter. It is to good not to use weekly.

TC, Oh YEAH on Dragonsbeard. His Original which was a collaboration where he did the scent before he started making his own soap was my introduction to Frank Dragonsbeard and Ethos. I love and have MANY of his scents but this will always be in my den as I have enough versions to waaaaay outlive me.
