The first dust of the season.

It’s been a minute but I’m still jerking whiskers and I stop in when I get a moment.  Empty nest will be great they said.  All sorts of free time they said.  They lied!  I love my work.  I love my family. Two football games and two Birthday dinners already this week and it’s only Wednesday.  Add to that I volunteer at the university to the tune of around 25 hrs a week and something’s got to give.  Ive got a second book half written that has been sitting now for half a year and I need to get back on it.  I’m prepping to build a new shop right now and asking myself why I think I’m 30 years young!  And…..I wouldn’t change a single thing. My five kids live withing a 5 mile circle of my place.  Their spouses talk to me at least weekly. Hardly a day goes by that some of my 16 (soon to be 17) grands stops in to see me. Hey, 9 of the adults are actively wet shaving six of the nine are ladies.  Perhaps I’ll get through this rediculous stash of soap after all.  Anyway, I’ve been messing with hard pucks of late. DR Harris Lavender and Avon Gentlemans Regiment.  Both are superb shavers.

This is my second shave with the larger $38 jars of LPL soap.  Unlike the first shave, I stuck with familiar gear and techniques for this shave.  However - and I am sorry to say this - both shaves were disappointing.  The lather tended to be bubbly and ultra thin.  I built an acceptable lather in the first shave, but it required too much work, and the lather was just acceptable - not great.  I called it quits after one pass during the second shave, and settled for a bloodless SAS.  

Perhaps I might have done better, or maybe if I stuck with LPL for a month, I might have learned how to use it better.  But life is too short, and there are too many great soaps on the market.  So unless I stumble across a fix - which is always welcome - I won't be using LPL again.

PS  The scents were pleasant but not exceptional.
PPS The post was less than top-shelf, but much better than I expected from the lather.

I enjoyed this morning’s shave so much that I repeated it at 5:00 p.m. I began the day with Karve’s Bison razor, which is pleasantly mild – perhaps too mild for a single pass. By late afternoon, I was feeling a bit scruffy. With a family celebration ahead, I reached for the Blackland Vector and had a quick, tidy shave. Now I’m ready for the evening, smooth as a pink rubber eraser.
