Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Vetiver de Haití (Eufros) burn barrel vetiver
Shave 2

This Haitian vetiver must have been brewed in an iron vat over a slow fire. It smells dank and rusty, and there’s enough smoke in it to send me scrambling for a fire extinguisher. On the scale of rankness, this soap sits right next to Salter’s infamous French Vetiver. Both are odes to the stunning power of unrefined vetiver. A shave with it leaves me smelling like I’ve been sat in a mud puddle next to the junkyard. And yet I keep coming back.

A new brush arrived today, my first Vielong. It’s a long-handled American with a tender Fibersoft tuft. I figured – following the strict rules of pogonotomic logic – I needed a Spanish brush to complement my Spanish soaps. It’s a looker, but the soul who assembled it must have been having a hard day. When the brush came out of its box, the ferrule and bristles were spattered with glue, while the knot itself was set skewampus to the handle. It listed about 10° off true north. So I cleaned up the glue with some alcohol, and I was about to pull the knot and reseat it, when I realized that the slant gave me just the angle I needed to get that brush under the rim of Joserra’s tubs. Our Iberian brothers are working in sync after all.

TommyCarioca, thanks for the tips. Tubs of Kush, Cefiro, and others are on the way.

Been meaning to ask, and sorry if I've missed your comments previously... How are you liking that scent, Dave? Sounds like a nice one.

Reminds me I have a tub of that marvelous soap somewhere.  I’ll have to dig it out

Haslinger Salbei (tallow)

Love these old, little discs. The lather has a gelatinous quality to it... that's the thought that always pops in my mind, anyways.
A quick rub around a wet face (like a stick), and go to town with any brush. Super slick and protective... And a very conditioned finish. Spa quality, and economical. And, particularly this (sage), the scent is a nice pure/natural touch. Love throughout.

It is a nice one I enjoy. I do wish it had more smoky in with the grapefruit but I do like it.

Eufros Tobacco

First use; struggling mightily with the scent, one not being recognized as tobacco.
On the plus side, it did support the iconic six-pass shave, bare minimum for all serious shavers. Wink
