Eleven — Cedar, Vetiver & Sweetgrass

Cornmint—essentially menthol in oil form—spiced up the soap.  It's a bit of a wallflower on its own.

Oh brother!  Just got done moving to another place.  Same town but three miles south.  This place will be better as momma and I age.  My commute to work is a bit taxing though.  The old place was only 6 steps.  This place is triple that.  Now heres the rub; she said she wanted to downsize from our 5 bedroom home and she did a remarkable job of that, only picking up one additional bedroom!  (And an additional bathroom).  And the shop that was my only item on the wish list?  Well brother you just need to see it!  It’s glorious and marvelous and I’ll post pictures………. when it’s built.  But hey, I’m an easy keeper and it was fun watching her get excited. The place is still a wreck but we will get it put together a little at a time.  (I did find out that if you put two couch sets in a moving van, make sure of the genders because somewhere in the night another couch set showed up!  Shoot, I’ve only one Fanny to sit on.  There again, I’m the winner.  My favorite couches ended up downstairs by the wet bar next to the theater room.
So anyway, three days without a shave and I was in the itchy stage of a beard.  I finally found a box with a razor and a stub of a polmolive stick and went to town!  What a marvelous whisker whack it was.  Still feels great this morning.  I can’t believe the polmolive stick sis no longer offered but I suppose I do.  I haven’t used it in ages.

Well I'm sure you got a deal on the interest rate, at least, right? Big Grin
And the builder will be paying you when they complete the shop!
Hope you love your new home as much as the old and find new memories there!

The good news: Spañish Fern may just be the finest fougère around. This soap has el duende. It’s passionate, primal, and satisfying on so many levels – a spine tingling top, a crazy blend of grassy middle notes, and a dark earthy base that goes all the way to China. The coolest thing is, when you're shaving, you’re not aware of the different parts. You feel wrapped in the embrace of an uncanny greenness that's dense, rich, and perfectly fit together. It will make you wish every day were Fern Friday.

The bad news: Today’s brush, the Zenith Kotibe boar, is the worst tool in my entire shaving arsenal. It absolutely destroys lather. I load it with a couple grams of my best soap, add my water slowly and carefully, work it all till my palm is red … and nothing. I’ve fed it enough soap to make five passes, but all it gives me is a spineless slurry. I get one pass out it and then have to reload. Miserable. Boar men, is this par for the course with these Zenith pig bristles?

And a side note: I like the crunchy sound the Shovelhead razor makes on the first pass.

Finally: HoosierShave, what did you think of the Lambda Athena? I believe it's my smoothest and most efficient razor (I'm using the February 2024 version, which is said to be milder than earlier editions). I hope you enjoyed your shave.

Honestly Bouki I was a little disappointed on the first pass.  I was using a new Astra SP blade and it felt a little "tuggy" and rough; whereas I was fully expecting a super smooth shave.  During that 1st pass, I was really hoping the issue was the fact it was a new blade.  Thankfully, the XTG and ATG passes ended up being superb!  Plus, last night's shave had no issue with the 1st pass.  The audible feedback on this razor is amazing...by far the best feedback of any razor I own.  Certainly looking forward to using it more and seeing how it compares to the SS Overlander Smile

Is that a stainless Lambda Hoosier?!

No...it's the brass.  I think the light hit razor just right to give it that SS look.  Or it was reflecting off that beautiful soap lid Smile
