It’s time to get some more cow fat in my diet. I’ve been using lean soaps for most of March, and my hide is starting to hurt. Beef tallow is the answer. Nothing cushions better than a layer of fat. I chose today's soap to accompany my reading of Two Years before the Mast (1840) by Richard Henry Dana. The book is about a voyage on a sailing vessel from Boston to California between 1834 and 1836. I figured I needed something a little salty to shave with. And even if I wasn't reading a sea story, I'd have still picked this soap since I like the look of the Spearhead labels. I realize they’re a complete rip-off of the old Seaforth style, but I like the vintage feel. It goes so well with my ancient Tech and Micromatic razors.

I read that he purchased the rights from the McKelvy family, so he is using the names and formulae legitimately. A refreshing thing to hear in this modern world of clones.

I finally finished the Merchant.   This is a much nicer scent.   I wish I could describe it.  My sense of taste and smell run to good and bad, such as black and white to the eye.   The whiskey I sip is supposed to have all these tasting notes, but I don't get them.    Maybe it's the engineer mentality that I have.   You guys put me to shame!
