Shave 54

The Tatara blades pair well with a Tatara Masamune razor. They’re very smooth and mild. Almost too mild, in fact. I feel pretty stubbly a few hours after my shave. But there’s no denying the scraping itself is easy and comfortable, just the thing for those days when you’re letting your hide heal.

Thanks to everyone who helped me find French razor options. DanLaw, you're right about the Thiers-Issard straight razor. That would make for a excellent all-Gaul shave. However, I've never used a straight. I hear the learning curve is steep. But the traditional charm of it is quite appealing. I'll need to consider it carefully.

Whiterook, did you finish off the Apsley cream? If so, about how many shaves did you get out of that tub? And isn't Grafton a nice fougère. I love the tarragon note.

Had a Vintage Le Coq I affectionately named Claudette and it was lent to me by a member over on the B forum when I was doing Shave Offs and it was an incredible smooth but very efficient razors and I literally begged the owner to sell it to me but he said I’m not ready to yet but when I do I’ll let you know first.. well it’s been years and thank you for reminding me and it’s time to head over to the French eBay and see if anyone is selling. Oh and it’s not the OC those are easier to find and not anywhere near as good a shaver in my humble opinion.

I’ll let you know if I find anything you may be interested in my friend.

Mike's Natural Soaps - Unscented

I got a free natural lip balm at my dentist office a while back and I don't use lip balm. So this morning, I was gonna empty it and fill the container back up with some shave soap to use as a mini stick just to slicken up at the corners of my mouth and under my chin. But, I looked at the ingredients of the lip balm and it looked like it was basically a pre shave oil anyways (safflower, coconut, shea)... So I just decided to use the lip balm as a pre shave in those spots. Applied it like a half hour before shaving to let the oils absorb (it really didn't, I just had mounds where I applied it, even 30 minutes later), then did everything else as I would normally. Well, that was the worst shave I ever got with a Mike's soap. For one, when wetting my face to prep, the balm obviously smears everywhere all over the face. And my face didn't like it at all. Weepers all over. Some burning/tingling. Can't explain why it was so bad to be honest.
But I think I'll go back to my original idea and put some shave soap on the container and that should be fail proof. A precision shave stick applicator.

Murphy & McNeil
Murphy's India Pale (day drinking)
Slainte Base
What a fantastic first shave with this soap. The scent is richly aromatic with hints of citrus, pine and hops. The base (Stout Beer, Stearic Acid, Goat Milk, Mutton Tallow, Duck Fat, Beef Tallow) was slick and protective; frankly, I like it better than the Kodiak option which has not been particularly satisfying to me in the past.
