What soap/cream did you use today?

I like messing around with spreadsheets. Working with numbers is generally so foreign to me that I’m always astonished when one of the columns returns a surprising answer. For instance, one of the columns calculates how long a soap will last based on current usage. If what I’m seeing is correct, No. 89 should give me another 1,547 shaves. That’s over four years of daily shaving. I’d call that bargain.

I just read that Truefitt & Hill have a new hard shaving soap called Mayfair. It’s supposed to smell like 4711. I asked them to send me a picture of the box showing the list of ingredients. They were quick to reply. Alas, this new soap uses that old wispy base (sodium palmate first) that most of us have turned our backs on. If I ever set my heart on Mayfair, I’m going to have to settle on the cream.

Hi Bouki

Just so you know during my many years of aromatic ingredients exploration I know where there is an exact dupe fragrance oil that smells exactly like 4711 and it would be easy to make a shave soap or shave cream with that scent. I actually made myself a aftershave with a tiny sample I got a couple years ago as I’ve been a fan of 4711 cologne for a very long time but I was not real happy with their aftershave effects on my skin.
