Cade (L’Occitane en Provence) sweet juniper
Shave 19
Cade was one of my first shaving soaps. I acquired my first puck in 2014 at the very beginning of my shave odyssey. I used it every other day for years. I grew so tired of it I abandoned it, more than once, only to rediscover and revive it when I saw what a fine soap it was. After four years of on-and-off use, that first puck finally disappeared. It was a rocky relationship, with plenty of highs and lows. I remember murmuring an oath on the last day never to buy another one again.
But of course, I did. This second puck has seen only nineteen shaves over the course of the last five years thanks to my obscenely large rotation. The shame is, I’m only now learning how to lather it to its full potential. Deep blooming and a floppy brush bring out the best in this dense soap. The cushion isn’t a mile deep, but it’s enough for a close one-pass shave, and that’s all I’m aiming for these days. And the Shea butter – there’s a ton in this soap – leaves a gorgeous finish. I feel like I’m falling in love again.
