Mondo Monday

Master Bouki is responsible for my purchase of this puck - esp as he describes its similarity to Penhaligons Endymion,... I just sprayed down with that last week. Perhaps that explains why I reached for this today.

Boukimaster's adroit description follows from 2 years back:

"Citrusy, balsamic and aromatic top note of bergamot, lemon, white fir. A slightly floral body note with spicy hints of pepper and nutmeg. Woody, musky and slightly amber background note of patchouly, vetiver, labdanum and benzoin." Yup, that's all in there, and it all smells good. I love thisThere’s a nice dose of fir mixed in with the citrus and amber. The soap smells spicy but it’s also foresty. Imagine you're hiking in the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by pines and fir and cedars, and then unexpectedly you stumble into a Moroccan spice bazaar. The juxtaposition is a little jarring at first, but after a while it starts smelling like a dream of Shangri-La. Cubebe also reminds me of Penhaligon’s Endymion but with a sharper citrus and a slightly sweeter floral note. To help your skin, SV has included monoi de Tahiti (gardenia petals steeped in coconut oil). This is  supposed to have rehydrating and soothing properties, and it smells pretty good too.

Thanks Boukimaster.

TommyCarioca, that fine tub of Cubebe I wrote about a couple years ago was snarfed up by my nephew over Christmas. He went poking through my stash of soaps and picked out the finest. Can’t blame him for having good taste. I’m going to have to order another tin. Until then, though, I’ll make do with this Grand Chypre. It doesn't smell much like Cubebe, but it still smells really good. To a heart of citrus, resin, and moss, Barrister & Mann have added notes of peach, rose, frankincense, cedar, cinnamon. It’s a refined, slightly tart chypre that reminds me of Mitsouko.
