Ishtar, that Babylonian diva renowned for presiding over matters of both love and war, held sway as the guardian deity of Uruk, hometown of the venerable hero Gilgamesh. Now, feast your eyes upon the grandeur of the colossal Ishtar gate, splendidly portrayed on the label below. This majestic portal, adorning the walls of Babylon, was a creation of King Nebuchadnezzar II, who commissioned it circa 575 BC. Standing on the northern fringe of the city, the gate formed a part of a processional pathway into the heart of Babylon. I hope this soap will make an equally fine entrance to a new year.
