Finished up the year with Noble Otters Christmas and a head full of thoughts about what a ridiculous pile of fancy soaps, creams, and lotions I have.  I find myself at a point where some of the joy I’d found when rediscovering wet shaving has waned and the “stuff” feels a bit albatross-ish.  Shoot, I find soaps and gear in the stash that make me ask “why can’t I remember the last time I used that?”  So for the past two months I’ve been giving stuff to poor broke college students and much of the verve has returned!  To date I’ve given 8 shaving sets away including razors, brushes, blades, soaps, aftershaves.  A few of the razors came from my pile but my razor pile never did reach rediculous.  Italian Barber was selling their Teck razor for five bucks and I bought a dozen of them.  One is in the picture below because I wanted to make sure I wasn’t giving those boys a problem rather than a solution and I was running out of razors that fit “first timers” because I like em a bit agressive.  My deal with them is if they don’t like it to bring the stuff back for someone else to try.  Thus far none have returned.  So I’ve trimmed the brush pile by 8, soaps by 17 or 18, six of my personal razors are gone and blades that I don’t favor are finding new homes.  I have culled brushes and soaps boxed up awaiting new homes with more college students and their reports of close shaves and less problems are bringing me the nostalgic joy I found when I found DFS.  2024 is going to be good on a lot of fronts.

Todays shave is a flashback to how I shaved in the past.  For most of my years it would have been one pass WTG with  the Schick injector razor pictured, Gillette Foamy and finished with Aspen aftershave.  I always liked Skin Bracer and would use it off and on.    Later on I used Neutrogena brushless shave cream.  I don't have that or Foamy, so I have substituted Proraso and used my hands to apply it to my face.  It's hard to believe this is what I though of as a good shave!

Happy New Year to all and I wish you good health and prosperity in 2024!
