So there you have it. A week’s worth of fabulous shaves with Martin de Candre Vétyver. I’ve enjoyed every pass, and I’m looking forward to another thirty weeks of this vetyverian contentment. Three things have made this first leg of the journey especially pleasant: (1) a new Plisson brush with a high mountain synthetic tuft, which scoops up a nice load of soap and then turns it into a fine lather effortlessly, (2) Feather’s ProGuard blades, which give a close, comfortable shave without doing damage to the hide, and (3) Ethos’ Replenish Restorative Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which works equally well as a preshave and a postshave treatment. Joy in the morning, and happiness all the rest of the day.

rudyvey, isn't that Charge something special? I'd use it every day instead of Martin de Candre, if only my wife would let me keep it in the house.

Tonight was my first ride with Grooming Dept's aka Aion Skincare's new Maxima 23 base.  The Vetiver puck is in the middle ground between hard and soft.  Building the lather was easy, and the lather had that glossy shine which IME is generally a good sign, and which was certainly the case tonight.  I wound up with zero blood, even though I spied a few tiny red dots along the way.  I did not use ANY post shave product - not even my habitual witch hazel - and I could not believe how great my skin felt - not sticky, not tight, or anything.  My skin felt like it does after my favorite, lightweight moisturizing routine.  

The scent is harder for me to describe, partly because I am working my way through an extra lousy upper respiratory infection.  I do like the scent, and it is not like any soap I recall.  The vetiver is there and pleasantly so, but it is not as forward as I was expecting (which is okay) and I haven't discerned the musk yet.  Somewhat frustratingly for me, my poor nose cannot tell if the other prominent note is cypress, cashmere wood, or both.  I will have to leave that sort of heavy lifting to better sniffers than mine.  Mind you, I do look forward to getting better acquainted with this scent, but my big win tonight was the Maxima 23 base.

 Professional artwork. Fragrance, cushion, glide all exceptional ! Shaved about 12 hours ago. Face still feels smooth and comfortable.


Happy I ordered a "back up" puck. Will be shaving with it again tomorrow. Plan on picking up a puck of Iris when it becomes available.
