Fougère, bol en frêne (Martin de Candre) classic fougère
Shave 11 ・ 213 g left

After three days, Fougère's fragrance has waned – or so it seems to my old nose. The fragrance, of course, is still the same. It’s my schnoz that has changed. Nature has designed our noses to function as early warning systems, directing most of our attention to new scents. If we smell something new, our noses immediately alert us to it. If it’s nice, we’re attracted to it. If it’s nasty, we quickly move away. If it's hangs around for any length of time, it seems to disappear. Thus over time, familiar, harmless scents fade from view, allowing our brains to focus on novel threats. This is a brilliant solution to protecting our bodies from harmful invaders, but it's also frustrating for the aficionado of scent who finds his favorite aromas slipping away with each shave.

Nice analysis, Bouki. I think you explained why many of us today (with so many options vs. yesteryears) can't/won't use one soap for more than two/three shaves in a row, and why SAD is so strong.
